Article in ASU newspaper
This is from "The Appalachian" the ASU school newpaper.
What do you guys think about this guys' column? I think I remember him writing another controversial sports column, but I can't remember what it was about. This is about fan support at ASU.
I think the guy is an idiot, personally.

Re: Article in ASU newspaper
I do, he was complaining about the "lack of professionalism" in The Citadel's pressbox for a recent CIt/ASU game.
http://www.appfan.com/blog/?p=2982" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
He claims every FB pressbox is supposed to be church-quiet during a game, except for ASU's press area (per a blog reply)
.
Then he had the audacity to say The Citadel (and he indirectly implied VMI as well), were the minor leagues (not speaking in terms of athletics) compared to the USMA, USNA, etc.
His "facebook" (or similar) page on The Appalachian's website contains one "friend"
..........are we surprised?

He's a douchebag. He's learned the modern sports journalist mantra of pissing a lot of people off to attract page views.
And that was the first time I've been to The Appalachian's website in a long time... When did we get an on campus brewery and offer a brewing class? I want to go back to undergrad...

Re: Article in ASU newspaper
He needs to understand that ASU basketball will never compete with the ACC for fan loyalty, particularly with students who grew up in North Carolina. Most kids don't grown up as Appalachian fans. It's an acquired taste.
Football is a different situation because ACC football has traditionally been mediocre to bad.

Re: Article in ASU newspaper
The guy is out of line - he wants fan support, yet dislikes it at football games? He sounds like some ivory tower elitist, happy to be safely in the comfortable confines of the KBS pressbox away from the rowdy rabble below.
I know some of the backstory on the Citadel issue (which I believe to be correct based on the source), but his defamation of the university shouldn't be tolerated. The kid is wet behind the ears, and if he's going to use this type of op/ed drivel as fodder for attempting to land a job at a paper/website in the real world, then he'll likely be delivering pizza.

6 students.......... Sounds like an Elon Basketball Game. Still this guy is out of line, but I can see where he's coming from. You should have more support than 3 ASU students, but wasn't this past Sunday part of your Spring Break? No one is going to come back from wherever they're spending spring break, just so they can see a women's basketball game. If he is so concerned about it, why doesn't he make it his personal mission to attract more people to the games?

Yep, nothing says "fan appreciation" better than a scolding from someone who, if not working for The Appalachian, probably wouldn't be attending the game either....maybe the dude should scold the boyfriends/girlfriends/roommates of the current players before moving onto the student body at large...we do have more than 6 players on the women's team, right?

It is basketball, you only need 5.

True, but if you guys only put 5 on the bus, that might explain some of your basketball woes this season.JConnolly wrote:Appaholic wrote:Yep, nothing says "fan appreciation" better than a scolding from someone who, if not working for The Appalachian, probably wouldn't be attending the game either....maybe the dude should scold the boyfriends/girlfriends/roommates of the current players before moving onto the student body at large...we do have more than 6 players on the women's team, right?

Re: Article in ASU newspaper
I always hate the implication that students have some sort of inherent 'duty' to show up at any particular sporting event. Its an entertainment event, competing for students time with lots of other entertainment events. If your event loses, find a way to make it more appealing. Otherwise I'll be at the movies.
Thread-killer extraordinaire.

Either that, or we just aren't that good. Could be both. But we did manage to knock Davidson out of the SoCon tournament.ASUG8 wrote:True, but if you guys only put 5 on the bus, that might explain some of your basketball woes this season.JConnolly wrote:
