I'll grant that the "Fassels" is an obscure reference for Weber State I made up. However, I did NOT make up every such reference I use. For instance, I stole the "Kitty"reference for Montana State lock, stock, and barrel from the Griz. LOL.
HOLY SHIT! You can not follow a point at all can ya? I referenced specifically two that did not include anything about kitty's or cities.

JFC SH, concentrate for a god damn minute.

It isn't even the fact that you do that dumb shit. It's the fact that you do that dumb shit constantly as if some really "neat" thing to you. I can't even believe I'm gonna say this about something that is so unpopular that only one guy even attempts to use it but...it's pretty worn out and overused.

Just stop man, have you no shame?!

If UNI can keep getting basketball recruits out of this than they can be the next Gonzaga, Butler. Or it could just end up being 1 good run like George Mason, if UNI ever ended up in the final 4. UNI's success in the MVC in football will help football. Duke is great at basketball, how's football? ACC champs 1989, the end.

The 4, 15 seeds beating the 2 seeds was a bigger challenge that what UNI had, because UNI is a solid basketball team that's been in the top 25 most of the year. Richmond, Hampton, SC St., Santa Clara, were not.

As much as it pains me to, I have to agree with D1B. I was actually rooting for UNI against Kansas for that sole reason. I mean, if UNI happens to make the playoffs the next year and a casual football fan is just flipping through the channels, the name recognition might be the difference between gaining another FCS viewer.

Then again, imagine if a mid-major made the Final Four or even won the championship. Not likely to happen, but at least then ESPN could pretend like they know the schools next year during the playoffs instead of talking about how dumb the BCS is.

Between guys like Gannon and McNair and Warner pulling in NFL MVP's, it's not like people who matter really don't know that there is plenty of talent at the FCS level. If a kid's looking to play DI football, he's going to already know about FCS football and that it is a pretty high level. Great win by UNI here, absolutely, but it has little to no impact going forward on FCS football, certainly FCS football outside of Northern Iowa.

UNI has 2 recruits signed for next year that are graded at 91+ by ESPN. Another one of our recruits signed for next year average something like 28 PPG this past season, highest in the state of Iowa.

For 2011 we have one of the top players out of KC signed in Jevon Little.

Thoughts. :geek:
Yes, this win will put Northern Iowa up there with all the other great directional universities like North Texas, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Western Illinois, Central Florida, South Florida and others. I won't be surprised if this basketball fluke of a win pushes Northern Iowa to a new level in all their other sports. Expect the Big Ten to consider UNI for the coveted 12th spot in the expansion plans.

Ok, joke over. Years of success in the tournament can lead to improvements elsewhere. Here' show it works:
1) single year of success can increase enrollment at a school
2) many years of success by basketball can generate more money for the athletic department, which will trickle down to the other sports facilities.

Us UMass fans here got to see this trend in the 90's where the success in the early years generated enough of a boost to help fund a new arena and cover the costs of other sports. But when the basketball money pipeline dried up when the program dropped off, other sports suffered (no $$$).

No sir, but some of my students were. mainly FCS and D-II levels. Only ones I can remember at FBS level was Zach Whited, punter for Nevada, couple of years ago and Greg Yamamoto long snapper for Cal(never saw him play). None of the football players I had gave a shit about UC Davis, Humboldt St., Nevada and Cal basketball.

They seem to be on their way. Thus I didn't think the upset was bigger than a 15 over a 2, because UNI was ranked most of the year. Because the MVC is better than most mid major conferences. Getting the best guys in the state because you have the best team in the state also helps UNI beating big teams something that can happen regularly.

It was fun to watch UNI dismantle Kansas, even though it ripped my bracket to shreds. In the South we do not have that many white boys playing at the same time on the B-Ball court unless it's the church league.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

It adds to a school's prestige and the overall strength of the athletic program and university, which does and should factor to a recruit.

Again, were you ever recruited by anyone, GannonFan, for a division 1 scholarship?

The FBS kids were punter & long snapper. FCS & D-II was O-line, LB, WR, FB another long snapper.

Did you specifically ask them about their programs?

*The whole nation is talking about Northern Iowa right now. Don't tell me this win aint helping to elevate the name recognition. Name reck is vital.

No shit!??!

I know we're talkin' about basketball here, but FWIW, I think a very large part of the Nation was doin' some talkin' after the last ASU/UM football game!

Name recognition indeed.

It will help basketball, I just don't think translates to football. I told the 2 kids going to UCD that when my bff went there they won the D-II basketball championship. They said oh, did they ever win a football championship, I said no. Then one of the other kids said, No shit that's why they want you guys cuz they suck if they were good they wouldn't settle for you.
