NCAA to change NC game date if Frisco gets it

This should settle the qualms about competing with the Cotton Bowl and answer the questions about when the game is actually scheduled for now anyway.
The next championship game is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2011, the same day that the Cotton Bowl Classic is to be played in prime time on Fox. Burnett said the NCAA told him that if Frisco gets the game, it would work with local officials and ESPN, which televises the game, on the date.

"We don't want to be going head-to-head with the Cotton Bowl in this market," Burnett said.

Why isn't the Cotton Bowl game being played on Jan. 1st, a Saturday? Makes zero sense to me. :coffee:

1-A should get all the "traditional" New Year's day games back to the 1st and/or 2nd of Janurary. :check:
1-AA is tops!!

The Cotton Bowl is only being moved to the 7th next year to commemorate the 75th Anniverary. It will go back to the 2nd next year.

Part of the moving is/was an attempt to get the BCS looking at it as a possible venue for the BCS championship game:
In 2010, the Cotton Bowl Classic will move to the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, leaving the newly remodeled historic Cotton Bowl facility. Reportedly, Cotton Bowl Classic officials sought for the game to become a BCS bowl game in 2011. (One of the concerns for this game having been the weather, since Dallas can be cold in January, but the new stadium would offer top amenities and a retractable roof.) However, a new four-year agreement between the BCS and ESPN has forestalled any possibility of the Cotton Bowl Classic joining the BCS until 2015 at the earliest.

Great decision and really, this almost tips it completely in favor of Frisco now. The biggest knock was that a much bigger game would be happening just down the road - with that out of the way, it would almost be an upset now if Chatty somehow holds onto the game.

Why in the world would the NCAA keep the game in Chatty on Friday, the 7th in direct TV competition against the Cotton Bowl when it can move to a location that is at least as attractive and would result in the game being moved from the 7th?

Unless of course they are willing to move the game to a different date in Chatty as well.

That could be a great football weekend in Dallas/Ft Worth though.

We've seen numerous articles about it being on the eve of the BCS NC game, which will be Mon, Jan 10th. So that would mean, Sun, the 9th. Before the article you posted I'd only seen one article that said it would be on the 7th. I've yet to see ANY that say it would be on Sat, the 8th. They'll be NFL wildcard playoff games on both Sat, the 8th and Sun, the 9th, anyway. So any which way you cut it, the FCS NC game would have to compete with either the Cotton Bowl on the 7th, or the NFL playoff games on the 8th and 9th.

My guess is Frisco's going to get it, and its going to be on Sun, Jan 9th, the eve of the BCS title game. At least wiki says so:
