How much longer will Jerry Moore coach?

Dude is 70. Is he another JoePa? Or could this be it post AE?

From the Winston-Salem Journal, May 14, 2009 ("Moore Accolades: ASU coach to be enshrined in N.C. Hall of Fame"):

Moore said he has no plans to retire and isn't sure when he will.

"I just hope I get to make the decision," he said. "I want to do it as long as I'm making a contribution, and as long as it's fun.

"I told somebody the other day that I'm on the back nine, I just don't know which hole I'm on."

Moore is still making a contribution. And he said he's having as much fun as ever.

I think he could be a JoePa. In most ASU fans' hearts, they hope he will hang it up when Scott Satterfield comes back to be the head coach. Will that happen? Who knows, he's QB coach at Toledo now...at this point, my assumption is that he'll stay until our transition to FBS is done (assuming that's what the admin has in mind).

Good question, he's certainly earned the right to go out on his own terms. I don't think he will but it would not surprise me to see him and AE ride off into the sunset together. I just hope that our AD is still around to make the hire when that time comes. :thumb:

Let's hope it's before
Scott shows up on the sidelines of one of our SoCon rivals...

Hard to say, Jon - there will be lots of wet eyes in the Mountaineer nation when the day comes, because he's more than just our coach, but a solid, good man. I thought he might go out with Armanti, but who knows.

I've heard Coach Moore wants his son Chris, our current running backs coach, to get the job after he retires, kind of like the Bob Knight situation at Texas Tech. I'm speculating here, but I believe he'll stay on until the likely front-runner for the position, former quarterbacks coach/de facto offensive coordinator Scott Satterfield, is safely tied down somewhere else. That would be the best way for him to boost his kid's chances of getting the job.

Let's put it this way — if Chris is going to be our next head coach, we can only hope Jerry stays on until he dies, and pray for some remarkable advances in cryogenics in the meantime

your brother and I had this exact same conversation after the game last Saturday. Who in their right mind would hire Jerry's kid over Scott Satterfield?! I don't know how long Jerry will stay but he has done wonders for you guys that's for sure.

I've also heard John Settle, former ASU running back great, and current RB coach at Wisconsin, being thrown around as a possible candidate for the job. Though he doesn't run the spread at UW, I think he'd make a great coach. I'd be happy with either Satterfield or Settle. I'm sure there are other names out there that us peons haven't hear, too. I'd be quite worried if Chris Moore was tabbed for the position.

I like Satterfield and would love for him to come back to Boone after Jerry Moore retires...

I'd be a little hesitant to hire him since he hasn't been a head coach anywhere. I was thinking of guys with some head coaching experience and App grads and remembered Ron Prince. He was fired after only 3 seasons at Kansas State where he didn't do horribly... (17-20 and 2-0 against Texas). There also seems to be a lot that went on with his firing and I don't know the whole story... so I could be missing something.

Think that could be a realistic possibility (whenever Jerry decides to retire)?

Last year I thought Moore and AE would leave together but I don't think so. I'm starting to think he'll leave with Cadet in two years. I hope he stays as long as he wants though, his contributions to Appalachian is unmeasureable. He is a legend and a class act. Not to mention a hell of a nice guy. I remember my days on the mountain as an undergrad and taking weightlifting in the field house and if I saw Coach Moore he always would say hello and or open the door for you. 4 FOR MOORE.
