Word is out that PSU will be looking to interview at least one minority coaching candidate for the head coaching position. Made me wonder if there has ever been an African-American head football coach in the Big Sky. I don't mean to start a big race-fueled thread on what should have happened in years past. I am just wondering if there has been a minority head football coach. Portland State actually was the first non-HBCU to have an African-American head coach so for the Vikings to hire one at this time is not out of the realm of possibility. I am hoping that we hire the best coach available and I don't care if that person is paisley pink.

I do not believe there has ever been an African American HC in the BSC..........

Good press on Greg Lupfer, Cal Poly assistant and former PSU player...

Other names on the coaching search...

Chisholm has talked about having a coach in place by Dec. 1, however, rumors are around that he may wait to see what happens with Colorado head coach, and former Willamette and Boise State head coach Dan Hawkins. When I heard this, I scoffed at the idea that Hawkins would consider coming to PSU, but back in the day, I didn't think Glanville would come to PSU. Anything might be possible, I guess.

I still think the top two candidates, even if the rumor is true, are Lupfer from Cal Poly and Pflugrad from Montana.
