Today was military appreciation day. As a former URI player and Army veteran I certainly appreciated my alma mater saluting the troops. It was also nice to see the URI ROTC troops in the back of the end zone for the entire game. After Towson scored their 3rd TD on the first quarter (2 in the first 5 minutes) I stood and yelled to bring in the troops (both male and female) to make a game out of it. Since I sit a few rows behind the bench all the players and coaches clearly heard me. Obviously they took heed to it since they ended up indeed making a game out of it.
We mounted a nice comeback but realistically, if you give up 3 TDs in the 1st quarter you pretty much know how your day is going to go. In the end I blame Coach Trainer for this loss. I could not understand his play calling. When it is third and long, to run the ball in order to get good field position for a punt is not exactly coaching to win. We have a QB (2nd string) who has a strong arm in Stefkovich and a good WR corps. THROW THE DAMN BALL! We were burning the Towson secondary for most of the game anyway. I still feel that our offensive line is committing far too many penalties.
On a side note... I spoke to a few Towson fans after the game. They also could not understand (though they were relieved) why we weren't throwing the ball on those 3rd and long plays, since our WRs were having a field day with their secondary.
Coach Trainer, this one is on you!

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.
