NEC Power Rankings - Week 3

Post by dgreco »

1. Albany (1-2) - Albany gets a good win over a top 25 team. If not for the last second lost to Georgia Southern they would be 2-1 and their only loss would be to a very good UMass squad. The Maine game looks to be a turning point for the team and they are on the turn around.

2. Central Connecticut State (1-1) - A week off, but no other teams did anything to make the jump into second. They played W&M fairly close last week and are up against a Columbia team who had a surprising win last week.

3. Monmouth (1-2) - Got their first win of the season over Duquesne. Duquesne has had a good start and make the Monmouth win a quality win early in conference play. They are coming up to a 3 game streak where they should go 3-0 and turn the season around and go into Albany at 4-2.

4. St. Francis (1-2) - St. Francis had a strong win over Morehead State and has also had two decent games against Top 10 teams. St. Francis has appeared to make the turn after a lot of rough seasons. They are a top 4 team in the NEC this week and should be in the middle at the end of the season.

5. Duquesne (1-2) - Duquesne had a good OOC win and then stumbled in two consecutive games. They look to be much stronger than last year and it appears that they will give a good game to the top NEC teams. They will also win a lot of conference games this year.

6. Bryant (1-1) - Bryant had a decent showing against Hofstra. They played a strong second half and should pick up some wins before they have two tough road games in New York. After the tough stretch they should have a much easier second half and can really make a statement in year 2.

7. Sacred Heart (0-2) - Is in the 7 spot just because they had the week off and couldn't do anymore damage. They look to have regressed from last season, but the season is young and they still have a chance to turn around their rough start.

8. Robert Morris (0-3) - RMU has had a rough start to their season. They looked to be a decent team this year and has had three good OOC games. The Dayton loss was tough to take after Dayton dropped a game to a DIII team the week before. RMU gets the 8 spot this week just because Wagner has had a rough go around.

9. Wagner (1-2) - Wagner had a bad loss to DII Stonehill, who is now showing to be a bad DII team, a good win over a bad DIII team, and a shelling loss versus a good FCS team. I think it is too early to tell what team Wagner will be. It looks like 2009 is a down year and they might end up at the bottom due to SFPA's recent success.

Good analysis. Watched most of the MU - DU game. Both seemed to be decent teams

Urbana was an NAIA team granting 24 athletic scholarships. They are in the final year of transitioning to Division II and now grant 36 athletic scholarships.
