Clearly SHSU shouldn’t have been the #1 seed. Another screw up by the committee.

SHSU proving that this was maybe the worst seeded playoffs of all time.
I had a feeling SHSU was overrated this season, but I can't believe how soft they are.
They would have been 4th or 5th in the Big Sky this year.
Congrats, bobcats!

Re: QF - #8 Montana St. @ #1 Sam Houston
Soft Houston under Keeler back to being Soft Houston of 2014-2017. Put up gaudy #s vs a bunch of stiffs from a no defense league in the regular season, get a high ranking and seed, then get absolutely destroyed when they face someone good (NDSU 2X, JSU, JMU, and now Mt St). The Spring was an aberration. The least lopsided of the blowouts was tonight, but this was the only one @ SHSU.
SHSU’s last 5 playoff losses:
2014 semifinals L @ NDSU 35-3.
2015 semifinals L @ JSU 62-10
2016 qtrfinals L @ JMU 65-7 (was 65-0 emd if 3rd)
2017 semifinals L @ NDSU 55-13
2021 Qtr finals L Montama St 42-19
Avg score about 52-10.

The Southland has a historic record of inflated top seeds. McNeese (sidenote: the most underrated fanbase in all of FCS), proved that many times. Add the Kats to that.

I am flabbergasted that the last Sky team standing is the Kitties. SMH. I figured SHSU would lose early, but NEXT week....

To me it's a reminder of what a fluke it was that Sam Houston State won the national title in the Spring due to all the weird stuff that happened. As noted on the Sam Houston State athletic site (https://gobearkats.com/news/2021/8/4/fo ... ctice.aspx), going in "The Kats return nearly all of its 2-deep – including all starters – on either side of the ball and special teams from its title roster for this fall season."
This was essentially the same team as the one that won the national title in the Spring after a James Madison team that was clearly way better than they were snatched defeat from the jaws of victory then South Dakota State had its starting quarterback go down during the Jackrabbits' first offensive series. They didn't lose anybody. But they barely got by Incarnate Word in the first round then got pounded by Montana State.

Yeah. 69% chance of the winner coming out of the hard side of the bracket. MSU got a gift, but they’re taking advantage of it, which is nice for a change.

Fun game if you're an MSU fan. Was unable to watch it until last night, but did listen to it live on my way home from Lewistown, MT back to Helena in hurricane force winds (damn that wasn't fun). Concerned about injuries for Saturday's game against SDSU. Three starters on defense might be out, Benson, Andersen and Okada all were hurt and are day to day. I think Andersen will pay, but Benson and Okada seem to be the most serious of the three with back and shoulder issues. Both were in street cloths to begin the 3rd quarter. Thank god MSU actually has good depth on defense, so we'll see that happens.

All other things aside, are you going to deny that South Dakota State had its starting quarterback go down to injury in the Jackrabbits first series of the game? Do you recall that their starting quarterback was the Missouri Valley Conference offensive player of the year? Did you notice that, even though South Dakota State had to play without that guy so that they were one dimensional they rushed for 239 yards at 6.8 yards per carry and Sam Houston State barely won?bearkat91 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 10:22 pmYour tears are delicious and your jealousy is duly noted.JohnStOnge wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 5:48 pm To me it's a reminder of what a fluke it was that Sam Houston State won the national title in the Spring due to all the weird stuff that happened. What do you think would've happened if the shoe were on the other foot and Sam Houston State had lost its starting quarterback on the first series? I can tell you: Likely a South Dakota State blowout.
Are you going to deny that South Dakota State losing it's MVC offensive player of the year quarterback on its first series was a HUGE break for Sam Houston State? Very unlikely that Sam Houston State could've won that game without that happening.

Re: QF - #8 Montana St. @ #1 Sam Houston
I never denied anything. Injuries are part of the game. As are bad calls by the referees. Are you going to deny that SHSU had 14 points pulled off the board due to penalties? Are you going to deny that either 80 or 85 f their rushing yards cane on one play? It was a hell of a run, by the way. So, who was lucky on that play? Was SDSU lucky that tackles were missed? Or was SHSU lucky that SDSU didn’t run for 80+ yards on every play? I understand that McNeese was the top dog in the Southland conference forever and are now an afterthought. I just think it’s funny how, in your mind, anything good that SHSU does is luck. Your penis envy of the Kats is hilarious.JohnStOnge wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 2:58 pmAll other things aside, are you going to deny that South Dakota State had its starting quarterback go down to injury in the Jackrabbits first series of the game? If those passing lanes are cut off how can a 6'0 QB see where his WRs are on the field. At least. McGuire could see where the WRs are going.SuperHornet wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 11:50 amI don't buy the height argument, and I never have. My Cowboys' own first-ever quarterback, Eddie LeBaron, is a perfect example. (And it doesn't hurt that he led the COP Tigers to a win over undefeated Cal in the Money Game and the first undefeated season in school history. He was 5'7" 168 lb QB who did VERY well at both the college and professional levels. Of course, ME being a former 5'7" QB (in my case, I had nowhere near the skill of LeBaron, and if you ever saw me, you'd agree with that), I'm fairly biased for "short" QBs. It's not the QB's job to see over the line. Rather, it's the line's job to create passing lanes. Additionally, if the "short" QB is at all mobile, his lack of height is actually an asset because the defense can't see him (and all his movement and fakes behind the line). You get a guy as tall as Dan McGwire, and the defense can see EVERYTHING he's doing....dal4018 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 7:32 am
Mellott is just barely over 6'0 so he will have problems seeing over opposing defensive linemen trying to find McCutcheon.Somebody said Casey Bouman is hurt too bad he has obvious NFL SIZE at 6'6 230 he can see over opposing players as its the case with Rovig at 6'5 and McKay 6'4.

JMU wins Fri, I think JMU would match up better with Montana St. I think most JMU fans would pull for Montana St becaue of that, and the two teams have never met before.
JMU loses Fri, most JMU fans won‘t care who wins this game.
NDSU wins Fri, I would assume most NDSU fans would pull for SDSU- getting revenge by beating their biggest rival in Frisco would be the ultimate.
NDSU loses Fri I would assume most NDSU fans would pull for Montana St. No way do they want to see their biggest rival or JMU win the NC.

Most NDSU fans don't care who they would hypothetically play in Frisco. JMU is the game they are concerned about. Most would root against JMU in Frisco, no matter who else they play. Most of FCS would root against JMU or NDSU in Frisco.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 2:56 pm JMU wins Fri, I think JMU would match up better with Montana St. I think most JMU fans would pull for Montana St becaue of that, and the two teams have never met before.
