El Cid over GT could be a possibility. We are reloaded and appear to have our QB situation sorted out

GT is transitioning away from the option to a more conventional offense (with 3 classes of option players) and they may struggle some

BTW that last article calls the 2015 win over USC one of the biggest but I would argue that El Cid over Arkansas in 1992 was bigger. Ark was ranked #24 preseason by SI

James Madison at West Virginia (Aug. 31)
This is not the same West Virginia team as earlier this decade and the Mountaineers have to rebuild their offense, including the loss of quarterback Will Grier, under new head coach Troy Brown. Curt Cignetti will be making his JMU coaching debut, and his team returns 12 of 14 all-conference selections plus get back key cornerback Rashad Robinson from injury.

JMU’s task got a little harder. Were slated to have 10 starters each side of ball, but are already down 2 on the offensive side for this game- had a rising rSr returning starter OL (maybe the 4th best on the team), leave the team sometime after Spring ball, and the best returning WR, All CAA Riley Stapleton is suspended for the 1st 3 games. Do have a couple of 3 star WR transfers, including one who started 7 games for Penn State last year.

Course last year were facing an NC State team that went 9-4 each of the last 2 seasons, and I found out the morning of the game JMU was going to be without All World CB Rashard Robinson (better than Moreland) due to season ending turf toe, and an All CAA DE was suspended, on top of a couple other DBs that were out. 7th rd pick CB Jimmye Moreland was the only starter back on defense for that game who’d started in the NC game vs NDSU 8 months prior. NC State had multiple draft picks on offense (QB, WR, OL) and I thought JMU was going to get destroyed with NC State putting up 40-50. Ended up being 17-13 until late 4th qtr when NC State scored after a long busted coverage play on JMU’s young DBs.

I think JMU has a good shot. I’ll probably be in the minority on the JMU board not predicting a win over the couch burners, but a close loss (depending on summer camp reports for both teams and the weather). Already have purple koolaid drinkers predicting JMU by 2 scores..

They missed WIU over Co State U. Still a chance the odds makers give WIU far more points than they deserve.

WIU had a tough loss to North Alabama yesterday. North Alabama isn't eligible for polls or playoffs yet, but they will be good.

^ The count is correct.

Here are the week 2 games:

Friday
W&M at Virginia
Sacramento State at Sun Devils

Saturday
Kennesaw State at Kent State
Southern U at Memphis
Charleston Southern at Columbia Gamecocks (USC)
WCU at NC State
Fordham at Ball State
Tennessee Tech at Miami Redhawks
Richmond at BC
EIU at Hoosiers
Grambling at Louisiana Tech
SIU at UMass
WIU at Colorado State
Murray State at UGA
UNC at Wazzu
NCA&T at Duke
Gardner-Webb at ECU
Maine at Georgia Southern
Furman at Georgia State
EKU at Louisville
Tennessee State at MTSU
Yotes at Sooners
McNeese at Oklahoma State
Jackson State at South Alabama
UTM at Florida
Stony Brook at Utah State
Prairie View at Houston
NAU at Arizona Wildcats

I can't see more than 3 scalps to happen this coming week. It can be said to be "lucky" if more than 3 scalps will happen.

The FCS teams playing at FBS seem to have been plagued by game awareness issues leading to inconsistencies and losses. (See SDSU/Goofies and UNI/Cyclones)

Yep. It turns out the 3 best chances for P5 wins, at least through the 1st 2 weeks, were SDSU/Minnesota, UNI/Iowa St & JMU/WVU. Don’t see any chance for a P5 win this week..
I’ll put the over/under at 2 this week, with 2 coming out of those 1st 5. Only chance for 3 is if have a huge shocker..

I THINK we have a shot at beating Danny White U., but I'm MUCH more confident that we'll get the "close loss" there that will look good for the committee if we do, indeed, have the breakout season I'm expecting.

I still think we're going to spank Fresneck, though....

In week 2, another FCS scalp (only one again :ohno:) to show:

SIU beats UMass 45-20.

Some close calls too:
GS missing QB and C, but still beat Maine 26-18.
