AGS Preseason Poll

Post by kalm »

http://thefcswedge.com/ags-poll/ags-pol ... 5-results/

The poll threads push discussion and accountability and as a result, AGS is still the best FCS poll around.

This was a tough preseason poll as a few of the ranked teams have either lost a coach, an elite QB, or in the case of NDSU, both. Maine and JMU both come back loaded but with a new coaching staff. SDSU returns quite a bit of talent but no Taryn Christion...

It was an interesting poll to create. Like you said, many of the top teams have multiple question marks concerning coaching changes, QB changes. etc.

And being preseason, it is a crap shoot anyways

That's fucking comical. Incarnate Word? Southeast Missouri State? Yale?

Montana rolls most of the bottom 10 in that poll.

Agree, Montana has not been rolling a fucking thing lately so although I personally have hope they will be much better this year there is no god damn way anyone else around the country would think they should rank UM any higher than we are. We're lucky to have gotten that much respect and AZGriz doesn't pay any attention to it anymore is my guess.

If I remember right though UIW has a pretty rough schedule so they may be out of the mix pretty quick.

Uh...yeah. Their campus is about 8 miles from my house. I think I could watch them any time I felt like it...especially since there MIGHT be 500 people at the games....

They'll lose a few games this year. 7 Starters return and only 15 are Seniors, lost QB, top 2 RB's, top WR etc.

7 starters back
9 All MVFC preseason selections

Maybe AGS pollsters aren't the only ones over valuing NDSU

I always chuckle at the AGS posters who say that. The stated reason is that the Ivies don’t compete in the FCS playoffs or, sometimes, that the quality of OOC opponents is poor. For a number of them, however (not you), I suspect that the real reason is anti-elitist chip-on-the-shoulderism. Especially those prairie yokels from NDSU. (Gil is the exception that proves the rule.)

It's not a hard and fast rule for me and there have been times late in the season where you start to have trouble finding worthy teams and I've ranked an Ivy. Wasn't proud of it...

Penn could have a team twice as potent as the strongest NDSU squad ever, and I wouldn’t rank them. 8-)

FYP :D

I love to mock the Ivies but it's all in good fun. I have an uncle and a niece who graduated from Harvard, a sister and a niece who graduated from Princeton and a buddy I used to work with in the summers who graduated from Penn. They were definitely sharp but I never felt intellectually or culturally inferior to them.

I have no problem with folks who won't put any Ivy in their ballot. Too many years the Ivy champ loses their only tough OOC game after running the table. Combine that with what is easily the biggest hypocritical stance in college sports. :coffee:

I agree - there's just so much isolation for the Ivy League relative to the rest of the FCS that ranking them or not ranking them is purely guesswork. I think there have been some decent Ivy League teams over the past few years that could be playoff worthy teams and even win a game or two, but there's also been a lot of slop as well. But with the evaluating being so non-objective I don't fault folks for not ranking them at all (nor for folks that do rank them).

It has nothing to do with elitism. It's just that Ivy teams suck mostly and are too pussy to participate in the playoffs. They play in the playoffs in everything else, so the only explanation for football is that they're pussies.

Sorry if the truth hurts.

Exactly. I had NDSU #7 in my preseason ballot. If it was most any other top-5 program from the previous year with those kind of personnel losses, I'd have put them at the bottom of the top-25 at best.
