Last offseason, 5 P4 changed HC:
-UNC
-UCF
-Purdue
-Wake Forest
-WVU

By post Week 9, 7 already have fired their HC:
-VT
-UCLA
-OK St,
-Arkansas
-PSU
-LSU

On deck:
Wisconsin (2-6/0-5)
FSU (3-4/0-4)
UNC (2-5/0-3)
BC (1-7/0-5)
Auburn (4-4/1-4)

LSU fires Brian Kelley after 2nd straight loss and 3rd loss in 4 games to fall to 5-3/1-3. Those losses were to current ranked @ #7 Ol Miss, @ #9 Vandy, and thumped at home by #3 TX A&M.

Kelly signed a 10 year, 95 million contract in 2021, and was set to make 10.175 million this year.

Bottom line if you‘re getting paid 8 figures annually, then anything less than double digit wins and making the CFP is unacceptable.

I do know they are not meant for me, but I said the same thing years ago when FSU started wearing them, Duke, etc..

Like you, I don't consider myself a stick in the mud when it comes to uniforms. Similar to Oregon, I liked when Maryland started wearing all kinds of different unis and helmets. I usually love what Army/Navy roll out each year (Navy has been way better lately). But I definitely draw the line at black for a school that doesn't have black as a primary.

BTW, I like some of Oregon's kits, but when they wear silver and white... I'm out. That's just dumb. Maryland has a huge advantage in that regard... are there any other teams that have four colors as primary?

I will take your word on game atmosphere as I'm not sure I've been to a home game since beating Georgia Southern in the semis in whatever year that was.

But it may only be a matter of time...

I'm with you on the Navy/Army uniforms. Those are usually really cool.

Was Oregon's silver and white their egg shell uniforms? The combo makes a little more sense when you think of duck eggs ...

Those are OK because of the green/yellow iridescent highlights... which they stole from Maryland. Terps wore something similar at Autzen the year before, which were maybe the most lit uniforms I've seen. I've been hoping Maryland would wear them at home with an all black background.

And the black and grey uniforms were widely cheered by most people under the age of 50. Saw tons of people last night wearing merch they bought that was the midnight edition the team was wearing. Can certainly say the enthusiasm in the crowds has been substantially improved since the FBS shift and even last night the student section was mostly filled, which 4 games into the season to still be this filled is probably something I've never seen and I've been going to games for 53 years. Definitely a lot more fun in Delaware Stadium these days.

Finding a way to not have a 4 hour game would be good though. Certainly the tv timeouts (it was on ESPN2) were a little longer than normal. But the officiating throughout CUSA has left a lot to be desired, and last night's crew couldn't have taken longer on reviews and collaborations. Just a brutal ref crew last night in regards to that.
Your crowd looked not bad for a midweek game. Betting more than we’ll see on Tuesday night @ TX St.

Are ya‘ll going to go back to playing on Saturdays this season? What‘s that 3 weekday games in a row? Have to appease the G5 mid week scheduling gods to get on ESPN2. Saturdays it’s like Pawn Stars “ESPNU, best I can do.“
Well, technically just two weekday games, I don't count the home Friday night game against WKU as a weeknight, just made the weekend that much longer. That game sold out as well, so not a bad thing. Delaware's back to Saturday games for the remaining 5 games of the season. I like the way CUSA does it, playing weeknight (or Friday) games in October. Weather is still pretty good so the games aren't hard to attend. And we just had one home game on the weekday, so it wasn't hard to schedule around/get to work around. I would despise being in the MAC - they do the same thing but they do it in November. I am not generally a big fan of night games in November in colder climates, which pretty much all of the MAC is. And certainly not then during the week. Certainly will take the CUSA setup over the MAC one.

Fri night college games used to be taboo Sept up till the week before Thanksgiving because of high school football. Looked at the ESPN televised schedule. For Fri games 12 weeks, Weeks 2 through 13. Not counting Week 1 (Aug) and Week 14 (Thanksgiving).

39 total games- avg 3+ a week. Most of the Fri games were hosted by schools in the mid Atlantic, Midwest, and West.

Only 7 were from what I would consider the 10 biggest Fri Night Lights States:
3 FL: Miami, USF, UCF,
2 TX: UNT, Rice,
1 TN: Memphis
1 LA: LA Tech
None from SC, GA, Bama, MS, PA, OH.

6 of the 9 conferences had them. The only 3 that didn’t: SEC, SBC, and ironically the MAC. Don’t see Fri night conference games ever in the SBC. 10 of 14 schools are in those biggest Fri Night Lights states. And the remaining 4 are VA, NC, and WV, where HS football is still big.

You tend not to see the gargantuan crowd schools play a Friday night game. The 'Bama's, Penn State, Michigan, etc, those types of schools, would never play Friday night because of the massive amount of people and because of the sheer size of the tailgating and parties that are associated with a home football game. The schools you list above are fine schools, but are certainly a peg down when considering gameday environment.

Surprised that JMU had a Tuesday night game last night. Is that part of the Sun Belt's Thursday night game thing they start doing at this point in the season?

Yep. The biggest Fri night game hosts:
-USF at 69k Raymond James. But are 20+ P4 stadiums that are bigger, and USF doesn’t come close to filling that.
-Miami hosting Louisville at 65k Hard Rock.
-Louisville hosted two Fri night games at 61k L&N Federal Credit Union. JMU week 2 and Clempson. Also were ironically the one @ Miami (I went to the JMU @ L’ville game).

SBC Tues night games just Week 8 and JMU Week 10 last night.
Thur night games Week 7 and Weeks 9-13.
Lol at the MAC teams Tuesday and Wed night games in Nov at northern schools.

Tues night games started Week 8:
Week 8: 2 CUSA/1 SBC
Week 9: 2 CUSA
Last night: 1 CUSA/1 SBC
Week 11: 2 MAC
Week 12: 3 MAC
Week 13: 2 MAC
Week 14: 2 MAC

Wed night games started Week 7:
Week 7: 2 CUSA
Week 8: 2 CUSA
Week 9: 2 CUSA
Week 10: 2 CUSA
Week 11: 2 MAC
Week 12: 3 MAC
Week 13: 2 MAC

Thur night games:
Week 3: 1 ACC
Week 4: 1 AAC
Week 5: 1 AAC
Week 6: 1 CUSA
Week 7: 2. USA, 1 AAC, 1 SBC
Week 8: 1 AAC
Week 9: 1 SBC
Week 10: 1 AAC, 1 SBC
Week 11: 1 AAC, 1 SBC
Week 12: 1 SBC
Week 13: 1 SBC

Would rather have a Thur or Fri game over Tues or Wed. And if Tues or Wed then it be on the road.

I'd rather have Thursday or more ideally Friday night, but for UD it was one home game on a Wednesday night. The Friday night game against WKU was awesome, I'd sign up for Friday nights at that time of the year again, great environment. And with it being October, the weather for it was fine, basically mid to high 50s. Very doable, especially as it was just one game (middle of the week).

Don't know how the MAC does it - I don't like night games in November (in the North) anyway, let alone then having it during the middle of the week. No wonder those games don't really have anyone in the stands. It just feels like those games are for the betting junkies to have something to wager on later in November.

Nevermind, I totally forgot ULL @ JMU on a Saturday was ESPN2. And now 11/8 @ Marshall on ESPN2 also.
-1st 9 games that’s 4 ESPN2, 2 ESPNU.
-Last 4 games through Marshall 3 ESPN2/1 ESPNU

As long as keep winning and remain in contention for the G5 CFP spot, and Bob Chesney keeps being hyped as the next Curt Cignetti, ESPN 2 or U will keep televising almost every game. Potential is there for 10-11 of 14 games on Nat TV. Most ever had in an FCS season was 3 on the Frisco years.

Same, Thur or more ideally Fri. Fri is better if the bulk of your fan base is traveling a ways (most of JMU’s is 2-3 hours. I know the bulk of UD‘s is closer). The M-F working folks are looking at only having to leave work a little early. But I get some folks won‘t like the interference with high school ball.

JMU weekday games since moving up:
-2022: None
-2023 Thur @ Marshall
-2024 Thur home vs CCU. Both teams came in 4-1, a 25.6k
sellout, but that was tickets sold, stadium wasn‘t full.
-2025 Fri @ Louisville; Tues @ TX St.

2 in a season/1 home (Thurs or Fri) would be the max I‘d want to see. College football was still made to be played on Saturdays.

And Lol at the MAC.

3rd time in 4 seasons of FBS ranked in Top 25. Last was 2023 when we’re raked for 4 weeks at #25/#23/#21#18 at 7-0 to 10-0.

JMU is 8-1/6-0. USF (7-2/5-1) is in at #25.

JMU appears to have the inside track on the playoffs. I don't see that changing after the next game.

I hope JMU isn’t taking App lightly. 4 of the last 5 matchups have been nail biters.

2007 App 28, JMU 27. 1st round IAA playoffs, JMU fumbles on the 9 yd line with 20 some seconds left right before they would have attempted a chip shot game winning FG. App goes on to win their 3rd straight I-AA (was season before FCS) title.

2008 JMU 35, App 32. JMU comes back from 21-0 halftime deficit

2022 JMU 32, App 28. JMU comes back from 28-3 deficit.

2023 App 26, #18 JMU 23 (OT).
ESPN Gameday. JMU came in 10-0. Had JMU won that game I believe the VA AG (a JMU alum) would have filed an emergency injunction in Fed District Court to make JMU bowl eligible over the 2 year bowl ineligible rule. There wasn’t any logic for the rule, it was just there. Would have had a good shot at an injunction and the NCAA as they usually do, would have caved. After curb stomping CCU 56-14, a 12-0 JMU would have then hosted Troy (had already won @ Troy that Sept) in the SBC CCG and likely won. Then a 13-0 JMU would have gotten the NY6 invite instead of 13-0 Liberty who literally had the weakest FBS schedule of 130+ teams. Liberty got curb stomped by Oregon 45-6. JMU would have still lost to the Ducks, but played them closer assuming Cignetti didn’t bolt for Indiana till after the game. Instead, JMU gets backdoored into the Armed Forces Bowl because not enough bowl eligible teams. With a skelton coaching staff, several players sitting out, a double digit with a foot out the door, JMU loses to Air Force 31-21.

2024 App 34, JMU 20. That drops JMU from contention from the SBC CCG (which would have gone to 2022 and 2023 if been eligible).

I hope it is a nail biter, but I doubt it. This is looking like the worst App team since the early 1980's.

USF was ranked in the CFP poll last week and the CFP poll is the one that matters for the playoffs. JMU has one less loss than USF but USF has the better resume. JMU's best selling point is they lost to Louisville close. Not really any signature wins. USF beat Boise and won at Florida. And their losses aren't bad - Miami and Memphis. And the American has been better than the Sun Belt this year. USF has Navy this week and then two winnable games. If both win out, will be interesting. Will see what the CFP has this week as that would say a lot.

Well USF did get got curbed stomped by Miami (Louisville beat @ Miami). So I would call that loss bad, or not good. But USF is still ahead of JMU in last night‘s CFP poll, so unless USF loses (biggest obstacles are @ Navy this Sat (go Navy) and the AAC CCG) USF will likely get the G5 playoff spot even if JMU wins out.

There is a remote chance Duke could take the ACC title at 9-4 so the top 5 Conference champs AQ could have 2 G5.

The nightmare scenario for JMU.
-Win out but not get the G5 CFP spot at 12-1.
-Bob Chesney aka the next Cignetti bolts for a P4 job.
-JMU gets a glorified exhibition toilet bowl game. The SBC bowl tie ins, negotiated in 2020, currently suck. They‘ll be renegotiated for next year and hopefully improve.
-JMU goes with a skeleton staff with a bunch of players either sitting out or a foot out the door like in 2023.

JMU‘s SOS problem:
One the SBC has gotten weaker the last few seasons. Example. 2022 SBC:
-App won @ #6 TX A&M
-Marshall won @ #8 Notre Dame
-GSU won @ Nebraska
2025 SBC isn‘t nearly as good. No signature OOC win.

2nd against the SBC West JMU was scheduled with ULL and TX St, the preseason #1 and #2 picks in the West. ULL is 4-6/3-3, and TX St is 3-6/0-5 (behind the highest paid HC in the SBC, what a joke).

3rd OOC. JMU scheduled Weber St, Louisville, Liberty and Washington St (11/15)
-Stomping Weber was worthless.
-Lousiville is very good: won @ #16 (then #2) Miami, @ #23 Pitt, and beat #24 JMU. Only 2 losses in OT, one to #20 UVA. JMU was leading L‘ville 14-6 midway through the 3rd qtr (had held at that point to only 125 yds) until the wheels feel off (Last 1.5 qtrs L‘ville 2 big 75-80 yd plays and a sack fumble TD in end zone. JMU ended game on L‘ville 1 yrd line as time expired- failing to score there hurt optics. JMU‘s QB wasn’t close to 100% after full ACL surgery 9 months earlier (and probably wasn‘t till mid Oct) so we’re doing a cockamamie QB rotation. I wish that game was schedule late Oct or Nov..

-Liberty last 2 seasons regular season was 13-0 and 8-3. Now they are 3-5 (with by far the most overpaid G5 HC in 6 million $$$ Chadwell).

-Washington St last year 1st games was 8-1 and ranked. Now WSU aka S Dakota St West is a Jekyll and Hyde 4-5. (yeah I know they imploded down the stretch to finish 8-5).

When you make your schedule you don‘t know who is going to be good, esp in today’s landscape of massive roster turnover every season due to NIL/Portal.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I agree, I don't think JMU's done anything to blame themselves for how the schedule turned out. Liberty being down was tough, and Washington St is just an example of how things could go in terms of conference shakeups. And yes, the Sun Belt hasn't been nearly as good as in past years, so that dip isn't helping either. USF still has Navy this weekend, but I've seen almost all of Navy's games this weekend and while they're still potent on offense, their defense isn't anything to write home about. USF is almost a double digit favorite for a reason. Still, always a chance for an upset and Navy's offense is still pretty good and Horvath will play. If USF did lose, would any of the other 2 loss American teams (Navy, Tulane, Memphis) or even 1 loss North Texas sneak past JMU in the CFP rankings? North Texas beat Washington St 59-10, so JMU has that marker to possibly surpass.

Well, one will get in, it's baked into the playoff structure. Navy still has home to USF and on the road in Memphis. 9.5 pt dog to USF and could be worse on the road in Memphis. I like Navy (son goes there) but they don't have the defense this year. Hopefully they have enough to beat Army in December, that's going to be the real focus soon anyway.

Lawl at whatever you are smoking. Navy would have to
-Upset USF
-Upset @ Memphis
-Win the AAC CCG

Say Navy pulls 3 straight upsets above to get to 10-2. Then they would have to hope the SBC West winner (likely S Miss) upset JMU in the SBC CCG. Then a likely 11-2 S Miss with a win over a Top 20 (if JMU wins next 3) JMU (likely @ JMU) still would possibly get in over a 10-2 Navy. Navy having the Army/Navy game after the AAC CCG does hurt them as far as trying to get the lone G5 playoff spot.
