The Republicans will find someone to siphon votes away from the Democratic candidate.

Libertarians don’t take many votes from Donks. That’s because Donks like you believe in the overweening power of the state. Greens, who tend to be nanny-staters with a hostility to market economics, take more votes from Donks. You really are a simpleton.mainejeff wrote:The Republicans will find someone to siphon votes away from the Democratic candidate.

I saw Gary Johnson (American hero) on the news last week plucking survivors from the avalanche in New Mexico.

Whoever it is this liberal will likely vote for them...or write in C. Montgomery Burns.

Re: 2020 Libertarian Party Nomination Process Megathread
With Bill Weld showing his true spots and re-registering as a Republican for a possible preppie primary challenge to Tangerine Twit, the field is wide open.
Most Libertarians I know thought Weld was a LINO anyway, and good riddance.
I doubt Amash will get into the 2020 POTUS race. He knows he at least has a platform for preaching the libertarian (small-l intentional) gospel as a Republican. Not to mention electability to Congress. Too bad, because the National LP needs a credible candidate in ‘20 to preserve its ballot access going forward.
Out of bemused curiosity, Mrs. Ivy accompanied me to this month’s Sussex LP meeting. She thought the political discussion was interesting, and she participated in it, but she thought the attendees (myself included?) were a bit unusual.

But I really wish he would jump in... he could probably preserve his seat and go back to Congress afterwards.... somebody needs to advance the LP narrative and he’s the perfect one to do it

Re: 2020 Libertarian Party Nomination Process Megathread
Recently, LP members who ran later as Republicans haven’t fared well with the narrative thing. Austin Petersen, who finished a distant second to Gary Johnson in 2016 for the LP POTUS nomination, finished a very distant third to Josh Hawley in the 2018 Missouri GOP Senate primary. Hawley, of course, beat McCaskill.CID1990 wrote:Youre probably right about Amash.Ivytalk wrote:With Bill Weld showing his true spots and re-registering as a Republican for a possible preppie primary challenge to Tangerine Twit, the field is wide open.

And casting a vote for a Libertarian means you don't understand what a Librtarian Government would actually be like

Re: 2020 Libertarian Party Nomination Process Megathread
In 2015, mid-summer, mid day, Alex and I noted a man in full suit/tie walking on McDowell Road on the 1.5 mile stretch that runs through Papago Park - open desert, no shade, 200 foot elevation gain then loss.
Alex stopped the truck to ask if he needed help - he said no, he was running to try to get the Libertarian Nomination for President and was on his way to a LP meeting at Desert Botanical Gardens. Being the compassionate liberals we are, we drove him the 2 miles to his meeting. Needless to say he didn't win the nomination

Re: 2020 Libertarian Party Nomination Process Megathread
I don't think I'd want the Libertarian Party in control of either chamber in Congress. But, I wouldn't have any problem with a libertarian or Libertarian as President. POTUS is a perfect office for a libertarian, imo.dbackjon wrote:kalm wrote:Whoever it is this liberal will likely vote for them...or write in C. Montgomery Burns.

As President, they would have a much easier time implementing their socially/civilly liberal positions and a more difficult time implementing their fiscally conservative positions.
Voted for a Libertarian candidate in 2016. Hopefully I won't feel the need again, but would have no problem doing so.

Is this the thread where you guys predict 7%+ of the popular vote for the LP candidate again this election?
