TULSA, Ok — Tulsa police say a woman accidentally shot by her 3-year-old son in east Tulsa has died.
Police identified the woman as 26-year-old Christa Engels. The shooting happened in a home near Admiral Boulevard and 161st East Avenue.

According to Homicide Sergeant Dave Walker, Engels was home with her one-year-old and three-year-old children at the time. They believe she was changing the baby’s diaper when the toddler fired the shot.
“My heart just goes out to this family. We have to pray. We have to pray for peace,” neighbor Vera Bennett said.
She saw police cars, fire trucks and an ambulance racing to the house Monday.
“So I went down to see if there was anything I could do," she said.
Neighbors then told her the news.

“The grandmother came in and supposedly found the two children covered in blood,” Bennett said.
Police tell us the boy shot his mother in the head with a semi-automatic handgun. Specialists talked with the child, who was able to confirm he pulled the trigger.
“I just can’t imagine in today’s society that there would be a loaded gun where are child could get it,” Bennett said

Police and neighbors are calling this a tragedy.

“Now there is a child, two children actually, with no mother, and a whole family that is traumatized,” Bennett added.

The woman’s husband is a truck driver who was out of the state at the time.
