Bad precedent

Post by BDKJMU »

It's great the guy got released, but releasing 5 of the most high ranking & dangerous Taliban detainees? Seems like a piss poor exchange. And this seems like it would make it more likely the Taliban would try to capture more Americans. Sets a bad precedent... :ohno:

They should inject them with aids, malaria, Ebola and Polio. I'm good with it if we do that. :thumb:

Father of Bowe Bergdahl Praises Allah During Press Conference With Obama On Son’s Release…

Image

Via Daily Caller:
President Barack Obama apparently traded five jailed jihadis held in Guantanamo for one American soldier, despite federal law, which requires Congress to be notified before prisoners are transferred.
Obama used a Rose Garden press event to tout the surprise trade — which he won by making critical, last-minute concessions — while the parents of the freed soldier, Bowe Bergdahl, stood alongside.
At the end of brief event, the soldier’s father, Bob Bergdahl, recited the most frequent phrase in the Koran — “Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim” —which means “In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Compassionate.”

After Bergdahl finished his statement and his praise for Allah, Obama hugged him.

He also has tweeted out a links to this website with a video, which shows celebration of American military being destroyed.

This story is starting to stink

Taliban claim captured U.S. solider has converted to Islam and is teaching its fighters bomb-making skills
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... kills.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
USA Today: Many called Bergdahl a traitor or a deserter. Stephen Kirouac, calling Bergdahl a “dirtbag” and “sympathizer,” was among many who seized on that speculation to criticize the rescued soldier.

So this guy was a deserter? WTF? :ohno:

I don't have a problem with America trying to get back POW's let me just say that.

However, if the stories are true about this guy & the fact that 7-8 other brave soldiers died trying to find this guy, well, the story certainly stinks....

If it turns out that this guy did in fact desert in a time of war...

well what difference does it make? dudes died looking for him but no biggie. it is a negotiation coup for this administration- lets not forget that.

desertion in a time of war.... used to be a ciggie and a firing squad

Susan Rice has her head up her azz again. She claims that Obama negotiated with Qatar, not the Taliban, for the release of Bergdahl.

I wonder if she has ever correctly used the word "intermediary".

she also said he was captured on the battlefield

I think I see what is happening here as it fits a familiar pattern

the problem here is that trading these gitmo guys for a real POW captured on the battlefield will be a bit controversial, but at the end of the day we get our guy back and the noise will be at a minimum. but if we traded these dudes for a deserter...

that's a problem and sounds like the same old song of this admin not doing its due diligence and has to send out people like Rice to paint a less politically damaging picture

And we still have that Marine sergeant stuck in a Federale prison? Why hasn't the Administration negotiated for HIS release yet?

I don't know if any of these rumors are true, but if they are, we MIGHT just have our first impeachable offense of this Administration. Of course, Republicans would have to balance that against the horror of losing an impeachment vote AND what is likely to happen in the unlikely event that a conviction occurs: do we REALLY want a Biden Administration, however short? This must be at least part of the rationale behind all these clearly unconstitutional acts this Administration has been taking lately. Republicans won't have the guts to go for impeachment because of how incompetent Biden is. A truly sickening yet apparently unassailable wall.

The more I read on this, the more I am not happy with it. The guys seems like he was being a dumbass and probably got what he deserved but I am not ready to pass judgement on him just yet by any means. It certainly sounds like they have a lot of investigating to do on what really happened when he was taken prisoner.

But if he was a deserter, like many reports suggest, he needs to spend some time in our jail, and then be dishonorable discharged from the military. If he deserted, we should have let his ass rot with the lovely people he liked so much............ :coffee:

Lets figure out what happened with him and then lets figure out what kind of charlie foxtrot led to him being traded. Someone needs to be held accountable on this one if he was the POS many are claiming now.

Unfortunately, that's the view from the partisan crowd - whichever party you back can't do anything wrong, because likely the other party did something similarly wrong before so they balance each other out. Kind of ignores the general question of whether something done was right or wrong, but partisans tend not to be bothered with details like that. :coffee:

The right seems to have this very selective memory, far more so than the left, when it comes to things like this. They want to impeach and execute Obama and Hillary over Benghazi, but want to forget the myriad embassy bombings under Bush, or Beirut.

The OP talks about a bad precedent, like this has never happened before. Which is clearly untrue.

Officer: Soldiers Were “Threatened” If They Questioned Story of Bergdahl’s Capture, Forced To Sign Non-Disclosure Agreements…

Via Charlie Spiering:

A former U.S. officer who served in Afghanistan with Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl claims that soldiers were threatened by U.S. authorities if they questioned his story.

After he was captured, Bergdahl said on a video from his captors that he lagged behind on patrol, although other sources in the military suggested anonymously that he walked away from his post.

“Not only has this nebulous non-story been put out for years but you know these soldiers of 4th Brigade 25th Infantry Division were threatened with legal repercussions if they spoke about Bergdahl. Everybody officially mandated silencing of what we saw has been so frustrating,” Bethea explained on BBC World Service Radio today.

Bethea served in Sgt. Bergdahl’s unit, and was an infantry officer in the U.S. Army from 2007 to 2014
CNN’s Jake Tapper also reported that many of Bergdahl’s fellow troops signed nondisclosure agreements agreeing to never share any information about Bergdahl’s disappearance and the efforts to recapture him. http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/01/us/bergda ... r-or-hero/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Bethea explained that now he was safe, more soldiers would be trying to tell the truth of his disappearance.

I can't imagine all of this trading happened without some military intelligence..?
What we're presuming based on the posts on this thread is that nobody talked to anybody in out Military before making the trade - Right...

Because we all on here know more than the President did about the situation

:geek:

Now that Might be true, we all might know more than the president did going in...
but does that seem likely?

Me thinks there's more at play here than originally noted
