Is MSM ignoring left-wing shooter's politics?

Re: Interesting point raised by UCSB Shooting
Almost every mass shooter has multiple mental health issues. But for a lot of people, the more likely explanation is that the shooting is the result of craziness by people who oppose their pet cause. It couldn't be because the person has no capacity for empathy and rationality combined with a persecution complex. No way. It has be a commie or a gun nut or a "rape culture" product.

I don't think this guy's politics had much to do with this- he was just a nut.
But if he HAD published some left wing manifesto I think it would be downplayed. (And trumpeted had it been a right-wing manifesto)

A bit telling, and I guess because it hits home on this site, that people aren't talking more about this here. The guy was a nutcase, no doubt, but there are very real mysoginistic undertones to this whacko that, unfortunately, exist in way too many places in America today, and one real prevalent place being the internet and places like this. Not a day goes by that someone on this site rips into a female public figure and uses some pretty strong, and female-specific language denouncing that person. And for the most part it's probably not a big deal, but you have to wonder if people talk that way when they're not on this message board (probably not) and what impact that has over a long period of time where people can freely, and often with encouragement, express and develop very strong mysoginistic attitudes.

Only three responses like that so far, not bad, the over/under we had here on how many people would respond like this in the first 15 minutes after posting that was 5, so either you guys are a little slow (there were multiple sentences to have to read) or maybe things aren't as mysoginistic as I thought.kalm wrote:Stuff it, bitch... Re: Interesting point raised by UCSB Shooting
Liberal groups say we can't punish mentally ill people in the same way we punish regular people because they really can't understand what they are doing and can't be held responsible for it. But when one of these people does something like this they hang on every spoken or written word of these people and ascribe these complex motives and emotions to these people. At least as long as it goes along with one of their pet causes. Every mass shooter has multiple mental maladies, a lack of empathy, and a persecution complex. What's the most likely explanation for this shooting then, GF?GannonFan wrote:A bit telling, and I guess because it hits home on this site, that people aren't talking more about this here. It's not a lot different than all the hullabaloo about violence in media when it was revealed that Eric Harris and Devon Klebold played violent computer games. It's just the red herring for this particular shooting. I bet within 20 years climate change will be blamed for these shootings (mass shootings have increased as temperatures have risen, you know).
And so what if people use words like "cunt" and "bitch"? You ever hear anyone call a woman a "dick" or a "prick"? It's just gender-specific words that basically refer to the same thing. That must mean there's some misandry on this board also, right?

Re: Interesting point raised by UCSB Shooting
The difference is, though, that misogyny is very much alive and well in many cultures around the world, it's not just one more mental malady. Perfectly fine and rational people in the world still participate in the sex slave trade, they still kidnap 200 girls in Nigeria, they still say women shouldn't play sports or have equal access to college scholarships to play sports, they still criticize a woman politician for how she looks or dresses when they wouldn't do the same for a man, they still make women cover any and all skin and don't allow them to vote or drive a car, they still say a woman can't do math or science, and so on. So yeah, sure, this whacko certainly had a lot more wrong with him than just his distorted view on women, but it does shed light on an ugly reality of our world, and something that even people on this board skirt dangerously close to on many ocassions, and that reality is that women often do have it pretty rough in this world just because they are women and because there are too many men that are dicks, and too many fathers raising their sons to carry on that tradition.Pwns wrote:Liberal groups say we can't punish mentally ill people in the same way we punish regular people because they really can't understand what they are doing and can't be held responsible for it. Re: Interesting point raised by UCSB Shooting
So this guy's rant against women is more relevant than Harris and Klebold's video game habits because of what goes on in developing countries? This shooting is a completely different phenomena than what happens with women in these places . He didn't kill people of both sexes because of what happens in west Africa or the middle east, he killed people because of his state of mind. Every mass shooter is angry at the world in some way - maybe because they don't have the friends they think they deserve or that people don't recognize how awesome their writing or paintings are. Why do their barely-coherent ramblings all of the sudden become relevant because it has to do with some government-approved oppressed group?GannonFan wrote: The difference is, though, that misogyny is very much alive and well in many cultures around the world, it's not just one more mental malady. And I wouldn't let yourself worry too much about women in the US. Not when they make up the majority of college graduates and compared to men have a lower unemployment rate, lighter setences for the same crimes, a lower incarceration rate, and make more money (when comparing single women to single men). Good-looking women like the ones Rodgers wanted to kill have it especially easy. The vast majority of them will live comfortably without having to put a lot of effort into education and their work.
If your biggest complaint in life is that some stranger once slapped you on the butt or offered you $200 for sex or someone else (usually other women, men are the ones who hate answering questions about which dress their women should wear) criticizes what you are wearing then you have it pretty damn good.
