Montana's Jesus Statue

Montana's attorney general said Wednesday that he supports keeping a 6-foot-tall statue of Jesus next to a Whitefish ski hill as a group of atheists and agnostics seek to remove it from U.S. Forest Service land.

Attorney General Tim Fox and the American Legion filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals as it considers the legal challenge by the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Fox is asking the court to uphold a federal judge's August ruling that allows the Forest Service to reissue a 10-year permit for the statue that has stood at Whitefish Mountain Resort for decades.

You guys have a Jesus statue on a hill?

I always thought Our Lady of the Rockies was kind of cool when visiting Butte. Didn't realize it's the second largest statue in the US.

One of the most famous landmarks in the world is a statue of Jesus on a hill.

FFRF logic...erecting a statue of a person amounts to deification of that person. No statues are erected of a person out of reverence for that person of course. Using that logic, the city of Seattle thinks Lenin is a God.

I don't have much problem with the statue being there but it's kind of sad…the need for an homage to Jesus, when you have the miracle of God's creation all around you.

I know. But there's no controversy surrounding that one, and it isn't Jesus. :coffee:

There's a big Jesus-on-a-stick on US Rt 1 about a mile south of where I live in N Stafford VA (the Aquia crucifix). I don't mind the statue. It's the 60 Mexicans standing around it at any given time and their four minivans half on the shoulder that bother me.

And it isn't the big one. I am so confused as to why people care.

If Jesus had a double barreled black stout that was aged for 6 years in his hand, Pols would defend the statue.
