No upset there, but it was interesting based on the thread last week that you didn't think he could get the GOP nomination. I was surprised, but it looks like he has a solid control of the NJ Republican base (and Tea Party) as well as a lot of Dem support. How results in NJ might scale up to national results is arguable, but I'm not aware of any potential Republican that can get the votes from the right as well as control the moderate/independent vote.

Christie solidified his base winning near unanimous support from Republicans (93 percent) conservatives (86 percent), and tea party supporters (88 percent) but more importantly, he made inroads with some traditionally Democratic groups. Fifty-seven percent of women cast their vote for Christie, a group he lost to Democrat Jon Corzine four years ago. And while Democrat Buono won the support of African-Americans by a large margin, Christie managed to capture one in five black voters - doubling the level of support he received four years ago (9 percent).

If I thought he was any different than the past 25 years of presidents I might vote for him. The jury is still somewhat out on that issue, however.

Christie said in an interview this week he had just passed the halfway mark toward his weight loss goal.

The GOP needs to get its act together before 2016. McCain & Romney were weak candidates. The Tea Party needs to wisen up - they can get a Congressman elected, they have less chances in the Senate & they have zero shot of getting a "pro-Tea Party" candidate elected to the Oval Office. They have to realize what would be more in their best interest, Christie or Hillary....

I certainly lean left (inb4 ) on a lot of issues, but by no means am I a strictly party-line voter like he suggested.

That being said, there are still a large number of eligible voters that can be enticed by rhetoric and promises that can't possibly be delivered - I like what I know of Christie so far because he seems like the type that's going to give it to you pretty straight, unlike a lot of other candidates. He's certainly not perfect and will likely step on his own sack quite a lot over the next couple of years, but I can't see Paul, Jindal, Rubio, or whoever else being able to corral the middle and the right.
