This is a good time for you to learn self-reliance. Let's help those that can't help themselves. But that doesn't mean take care of them their entire lives. Teach them a trade and help them make their own way. People grow up seeing welfare and food stamps as a normal way of life so it's no problem for them to be that way.

You can't be free while expecting other people to take care of you. There is an exchange. If you say you are free you are responsible for yourself and you risk failure. When people take care of you they have "leverage" with respect to your life and your choices.

Not including a large percentage of the defense contractors that don't (somehow) get rolled into that figure
The actual number is in the Trillions
