This is a good time for you to learn self-reliance. Let's help those that can't help themselves. But that doesn't mean take care of them their entire lives. Teach them a trade and help them make their own way. People grow up seeing welfare and food stamps as a normal way of life so it's no problem for them to be that way.

There's all kinds of "welfare" going on...
Lets not pretend that our military isn't a giant welfare dumping ground

but that aside: BEWARE this is a TROLL Thread

You can't be free while expecting other people to take care of you. There is an exchange. If you say you are free you are responsible for yourself and you risk failure. When people take care of you they have "leverage" with respect to your life and your choices.

When you say you want government to take care of you, you are selling your soul.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

BTW, this is what the message to the poor should be:

"You have no right to expect that other people will bail you out when you fail. If people choose to help you out out of voluntary charity, that is good. But nobody owes that to you. You are not entitled to have other people provide what you cannot provide for yourself. And you are not entitled to have government rob people who are successful in order to provide you with what you need."

Look everybody to some degree is looking for the government to help them
The idea that it's only The Unwashed Lazy Poor is ridiculous

We have proven in this country (over and over)
That Corporations get just as much "welfare" as anybody - as noted above

Automotive / Banking / Farming / Big Oil / Telecommunications

To some degree or another they're all on the take
over 50% of Federal Subsidies go to 5 groups

1) Financial Industries
2) Utilities Gas & Electric
3) Telecom
4) Oil Gas & Pipeline
5) The Poor

in that order....

And considering what % of our budget each year is considered "discretionary", all 5 of those pale in comparison to the subsidies given out in the form of entitlement programs.

We're almost there. Besides many people now choosing not to want a job, we have plenty who only want a job that they aren't qualified for.

Only if you consider 50% of the Active Military as on Entitlement

:coffee:
2011: 2.0T of Mandatory spending, $1.3T of discretionary spending, of which more than half was defense spending. Still not winning, Chizz.

Winning..?
What is this like a game of checkers or something

so the Feds have $840 Bn booked for 2014 defense spending
Not including a large percentage of the defense contractors that don't (somehow) get rolled into that figure
The actual number is in the Trillions

and $393 Bn on the books for 2014 Welfare & crap

Of course none of this includes the $928 Bn booked for Pensions (sweet Jeezus)

We are truly fucked
