http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ele ... to-secede/From states across the country, Americans have filed petitions on the White House Web site seeking to secede from the union and form new state governments.
While most of the petitions come from states that supported Mitt Romney in last week’s election, a few swing states and even the deep blue Northeast are represented.
Petitions have been filed for Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
“We petition the Obama Administration to peacefully grant the State of Alabama to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own new government,” reads the Alabama petition.

I don't think the concept is stupid at all. We have obviously come to a point in our history where people have very different beliefs about the role of government and how things should proceed. And there is a pretty solid geographic pattern to it. I really am sick of having my life largely controlled because of the influence of what I consider to be states populated with flakes like California and New York. And I'm sure people in California and New York wouldn't like having their lives largely controlled because of the influence on the national government of people they consider to be rednecks from states like Louisiana and Texas.Ibanez wrote:I've read this article. I would fully support breaking the country in some way. And I am serious. I am really tired of having to live under a national government largely controlled by people concentrated in metropolitan areas of the Northeast, Midwest, and West. We don't have the same ideas and values. Nothing wrong, in my opinion, with us living in different countries. Or at least go to more of a Confederation so that the States are sovereign.
And yes I think Louisiana would be fine without Federal money as long as we get to keep our oil and gas resources. Since we'd be our own country I think what's now in what we call "Federal Waters" would be ours too. We'd be fine.

It's pretty stupid and it's pretty childish. Every year half the country is disappointed in the election result. Get over it. Taking your ball and going home is a loser mentality.JohnStOnge wrote:I don't think the concept is stupid at all. You would be fine until some other country had a dispute with you, and now you have to fight back all by yourself - whether it be economically, militarily or otherwise. It's the reason that the states united in the first place.JohnStOnge wrote:I don't think the concept is stupid at all. Re: Secession!!!
Look, I'm as disappointed by the re-election of the most incompetent President in history as any other conservative, but I canNOT stand behind these idiots plotting secession. First, the original Civil War proved that secession is not possible under our constitution (or, at least, under President Lincoln's interpretation of it, which he enforced under arms). Second, these numbskulls clearly haven't thought through the ramifications of success: Do they band together or try to go it alone? They'll have to plan Constitutional conventions, establish new national level governmental organizations, establish relations with others, etc. Not exactly practical.
The other thing is that this is a sign of giving up too soon. Twenty-sixteen is a chance to get everything back. Conservatives will NEVER get it back if they run away like a bunch of pansies.

He should send each state a reply with a tube of Preparation H and "BOO HOO" written for every idiot that signed it. He'd go down as the best president ever, in my book.
