Good riddance. Too bad he was ever born.

To this day I remember how he helped torpedo the Robert Bork nomination. Said Robert Bork was a threat to Constitutional Government when the truth is that Robert Bork was trying to RESTORE Constitutional Government.

I always ask myself if the world is a better or worse place as a result of someone's life. In my opinion the answer with respect to Sepcter's life is "worse place." The fact that he ever had any power and/or influence is a net negative.

Not going to pretend otherwise just because he's dead now.

But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth

Rest in Peace.

Keeping Robert Bork off the Supreme Court is worthy of being on Mt. Rushmore.

America is a much better place without jackasses like Bork on the SCOTUS.

Where's spanos? Specter was one of the people that authored the "single bullet" theory for the JFK assassination. Gotta be a conspiracy there somewhere.

Sometimes dancing on a grave is appropriate. Sometimes, it is a good thing that someone is no longer around. Sometimes, all would agree that it would have been better if someone had never been born. You may disagree with me about this particular person. But surely you don't disagree with me with respect to the principle. I don't think it'd take you long to think of some historical figures like that.

So why do we all feel so complelled to automatically show "respect" for a person who just died no matter how much damage we think he or she did?

I don't think he was a bad guy. Ted Kennedy was a bad guy. Spector was principled, and moderate, which didn't have a place in either political party in the 21st century, which is unfortunate. He was tarred and feathered by Republicans, and probably didn't deserve it.

I disagreed with him on the stimulus, but I think he was losing it at that point.

Is it because it's JSO or is it because Specter is dead? I see a lot of free passes for others here.

He was tarred and feathered by the Democrats as well - they never forgave him for his "treatment" of Anita Hill.

I think generally Specter was a perfectly fine politician. He stayed in the moderate middle and I think we need people like that in government to keep things moving. However, I do think near the end it came to be more about holding onto the office and the power included in it that it was doing good things with that power. But that happens after so many years in office and is a warning for career politicians. However, I don't think that completely negates the many positive things that came before that.

Mixed bag for Specter. Crucifying Anita Hill: good. Going after Bork: bad. Able prosecutor: good. TWO major party changes in his lifetime -- Democrat first, liberal Republican second, back to Donk last --to save his ass politically. Bad. And the second time, it didn't even work. He was a bloviator of the first order. That said, RIP.

Why was Ted Kennedy a bad guy?
Because he didn't die sooner.

Why was Ted Kennedy a bad guy?

Bottom line on Ted is he valued his political career over personal convictions and values…so he had none.

He changed his mind on being pro life when it was advantages to woo the women vote. And he decide to abandon a woman who according to police reports was alive in an air pocket for some time as Ted was running away worried about his career.

Kinda like Romney?

Flip-flopping daily on abortion?

Getting away scot free after causing a fatal traffic accident?

And are you really going to imply Teddy's and Mitt's accidents were comparable? :tothehand:

Wait, how did expansos get to hijack d-backs account? Now Romney caused a fatal traffic accident? Can't be so, the New York Times says he didn't:
Mr. Romney, by all accounts not at fault, was knocked unconscious and mistakenly pronounced dead at the scene.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/25/us/po ... d=all&_r=0

Comparing that to Ted Kennedy's far more documented run from justice and leaving a person to die has to be one of the worst stretches of facts since D1B's last post. Or his next post. Or the one after that.

Romney got the official account white-washed - other sources say HE WAS at fault.

Like Kennedy, wealth has it's privledges.

Of course, Romney was in Paris dodging the draft in the first place, but you don't hear the moans about that like you did for Clinton.

Again, fucking hypocracy of the right.
