Not quite as bad as Saddam sending a bill for the bullet to families of those he executed, but still pretty bad.

It might have been both. I heard the Saddam story, too.Grizalltheway wrote:Wasn't that Comrade Stalin?93henfan wrote:Not quite as bad as Saddam sending a bill for the bullet to families of those he executed, but still pretty bad.

So an illegal kills someone, repeat kills someone, in a DUI. She has no drivers license, repeat has no drivers license, no insurance, nada....and she doesn't get deported?
How?

She is in jail. Once her sentence is up, she will be.
Would you rather she just be deported, and not have to serve any jail time for her actions?

In lieu of the taxpayers having to pay likely over a 1/2 million for this illegal's incarceration for the next 17 years, I'd rather for her to be taken out back and shot.dbackjon wrote:bluehenbillk wrote:So an illegal kills someone, repeat kills someone, in a DUI. Re: Mom Sent Street-Cleaning Bill...
So Jon, you believe a criminal such as this non-citizen should be afforded the protections of the US Constitution?
While I don't condone "taking her out back and shooting her", I do believe she and every other person illegally in this country should be deported as expeditiously as possible. Is this feasible? No, I know it's not, but that's my stance.

Yes, I believe that even non-citizens should be afforded protection of the US Constitution while on US Soil.
Again, we deport her, and she serves no time in jail for killing this kid. Is that fair?
And she doesn't cost the millions quoted to incarcerate her - that is the total cost divided by number of prisoners - deport her tomorrow, prison costs would only drop by the hundreds spent yearly to feed her.

Constitutional protections are for citizens and legal immigrants. I second the motion for summary execution.dbackjon wrote:Why do you hate the Constitution and The United States?BDKJMU wrote:

Kind of depends on which country she'd have to go back to - in some cases, our prisons are better places to live than living free in other countries. Better healthcare too.dbackjon wrote: Again, we deport her, and she serves no time in jail for killing this kid. Is that fair?

She has enjoyed the freedoms of America and the security of America as a criminal. Sending her to jail, only to have the victims family pay for it is crazy.dbackjon wrote:93henfan wrote:So Jon, you believe a criminal such as this non-citizen should be afforded the protections of the US Constitution?

Food, clothing, medicine, water, shoes, electricity, laundry services, protection services, housing, etc... all are costs that go into paying for an inmate. In FY11, South Carolina spent $14,409 per inmate. She will end up costing at least $244,943 ($208k if she serves 85%) over the next 17 years. THEN we have to deport her. Essentially, it cost the USA $5billion to deport 393,000 immigrants last year. So, We can deport her and pay a one time fee of $12,500 or house her for $14,409 per year for 17 years.
Now, what if we make her a citizen and garnish her wages so that she pays a fine, at the very least pays the costs of the services for responding to her crime, burying the boy and the court costs?

Give her a $1000 gift card and a shopping spree at Cabela's, a years supply of canned sardines and then deport her to Antarctica. Cheaper than prison, she gets punished, and she won't be coming back.
Problem solved.

Per your link, that cost is the total cost divided by number of prisoners - so losing one would not save much money. Certainly not 225,000 over the length of her sentence. Now if there were so many illegals in jail you had to open a jail just for them, that is another story - then your $14K per year would be accurate.
It is crazy though, to bill the victim.
That is a different issue that seems to have nothing to do with the illegality of the perp. Seems like they would do the same if the perp was a poor American with no resources.

Re: Mom Sent Street-Cleaning Bill...
Which in my opinion may have little or anything to do with what the Constitution actually says. People, I think, give the Judiciary way too much respect and credibility. As a practical matter we have to live with it. But, to me, saying that the Supreme Court says something is Constitutional or Unconstitutional is kind of like saying your Ouija board said it. I mean in terms of credibility. Obviously when the Supreme Court says something we have to do what it says. Same as when Henry VIII said something in England during the 1500s.Supreme Court has consistantly ruled otherwise
