OBAMA LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN IN EMPTY ARENA
"According to ABC News, the Obama campaign had expected an "overflow" of people. Instead, the arena looked half-empty. The Columbus Dispatch reports that Obama organizers even had people move from the seats to the floor of the gym in order to project a larger crowd on television.
According to the Toledo Blade, the venue for Obama's rally seats 20,000 but "there were a lot of empty seats." Comparatively, Obama drew a crowd of 35,000 at Ohio State when he campaigned for former Governor Ted Strickland in 2010......."

NY Times Description of Obama Campaign Kickoff Rallies: “They Had The Feeling of a Concert By An Aging Rock Star”…
President Obama sought to rekindle the passion of his 2008 victory on Saturday with a pair of huge rallies in battleground states that signaled a new, more politically aggressive phase of the campaign and a sharpened critique of Mitt Romney.
“At times, the rallies had the feeling of a concert by an aging rock star: a few supporters were wearing faded “Hope” and Obama 2008 T-shirts, and cheers went up when the president told people to tell their friends that this campaign was “still about hope” and “still about change.”

Good job Mitt

Good job Mitt
Columbus, Ohio (CNN) — GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney welcomed President Barack Obama to the Buckeye State on Saturday by parking his campaign bus outside of the site where Obama held his first campaign rally of the 2012 campaign
First the letter to the editor below
Via the Cleveland Plain Dealer:
Dear Mr. President,
Welcome to Ohio. I have a simple question for you: Where are the jobs?
As we enter the fourth year of your term, unemployment is over 8 percent and has been for your entire term. Nearly 23 million men and women are unemployed, underemployed or are no longer even looking for work. In the face of such challenges, many Americans have simply given up hope.
I recognize, of course, as do all Americans, that you inherited an economic crisis. But you’ve now had three years to turn things around. The record of those three years is clear. Your policies have failed, not only in Ohio, but across the nation.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. Al Swearengen

Remember that time when you tried to spin Romney's 1200 in a stadium as a pretty good turnout.
CitadelGrad wrote:Romney drew 1200 people for an economics speech. That's not bad. The choice of venue was idiotic.

Now you want to argue that 14,000 is pathetic.
And you accuse ME of spin.
Has Romney ever spoken in front of 14,000 people?

I dunno. 1200 sounds like a good turnout for ANY speech on economics, even if it they are offering free massages by hot nekkid chicks.Skjellyfetti wrote:CitadelGrad wrote:Can't wait to read jellybelly's spin.![]()

That's not spin. It was an economic speech, not a campaign kickoff.Skjellyfetti wrote:CitadelGrad wrote:Can't wait to read jellybelly's spin.![]()

Considering Obama drew 35,000 in the same arena just 2 years ago for a stump speech during a gubernatorial race (and the guy still lost), 14,000 for a 2012 campaign kickoff speech is laughable.....especially when they were expecting at least twice that amount.

It shows his support is down.
I don't doubt that.
But, has Romney spoken to a crowd of 14,000 this year?

It holds 18k. They could pack more in on the floor obviously, but I doubt they were expecting to pack 8,000 people onto a basketball court.Baldy wrote:especially when they were expecting at least twice that amount.

There's a big difference between and economics speech on a weekday afternoon and a re-election campaign kickoff on a weekend.Skjellyfetti wrote:CitadelGrad wrote:Can't wait to read jellybelly's spin.![]()

Re: OBAMA LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN IN EMPTY ARENA
Did Romney have more than 14,000 at his election kick off event?
I'm guessing he had a few thousand tops.
Keep spinning Obama's 14,000 turnout as a negative though.
I'm pretty sure Romney has never spoken to an audience anywhere near that number.

Re: OBAMA LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN IN EMPTY ARENA
Romney doesn't carry the gravitas of the office of president into his economic speeches either...
I won't vote for Obama under any circumstance (not after what has happened to my industry under his watch) but if somebody offered me the chance to see him in person and it wasn't too much of a hassle I'd go just because he's the President and then I could say I've seen 5 Presidents in person, meeting 3 face to face.

Re: OBAMA LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN IN EMPTY ARENA
It doesn't matter how many have come out to see a Romney speech. As I said earlier, 35,000 people came out in 2010 to see Obama at a Ted Strickland pep rally and he still lost the election.Skjellyfetti wrote:It shows his support is down.

The arena holds 20,000, not including the court seating and they were expecting an "overflow" crowd, so yeah, 28.000 wasn't out of the question.
So yeah, keep spinning that sections of empty seats in an arena the Obama campaign was fully expecting to be "OVERFLOWING" isn't a massive disappointing embarrassment.

I don't see this as that big of a deal. It's not good news for Obama, but it no more guarantees a loss in November than a full house would have guaranteed a win.

I thought Obama started campaigning several months ago.
