Obama Nails Campaign Promise

Post by bluehenbillk »

Obama said on the campaign trail & when he took office that Americans wanted a college football playoff.

Lo & behold in December of 2014 & January of 2015 it will finally happen.

Got bin Laden, got a playoff, damn. :thumb: :notworthy:

Off course, it is a "playoff" system that basically screws the little guys like Boise and anyone else who isn't in the SEC, Big 10, Pac 10, Big 12, and perhaps the ACC (and yeah, it screws the Big East too) so while it's a playoff, it basically rewards the Big College Football lobby that has been doing everything they can to monopolize the game. But yes, I like it.

So is The Anointed One claiming credit for this, too?
WAFJ.
And it's far from a done deal -- especially on the big question of how the playoff participants will be selected.

Details, schmeetails. They're all in agreement it'll be 4 teams to start, they'll be no AQ's, they'll be at neutral or bowl sites & they have to nail down dates. Lastly, how they'll pick them which will probably be a committee. They'll have it wrapped up in the summer.

I told you all, you'll be explaining to your granchildren one day how college football used to NOT have a playoff system.

Side note: when this happens and the BCS is officially dead. Can we kill the GPI once and for all with it? Any objectors?

No, he hasn't claimed credit for it -- yet. Nor has he claimed credit for the GDP growth rate decline from 3% (4Q) to 2.2% (1Q). The predicted rate was 2.6%.

Why is the government dealing with sports when there are bigger problems?

Maybe Barry Sortero can make that happen, too.

To protect us from stupid things like the BC$. It is quite frankly the dumbest thing in all sports. :kisswink:

That's the most asinine statement I've ever heard.

Obama Nails Campaign Promise

Post by CID1990 »

I notice from the Obama Network (pretty much every channel except CSPAN) that they are really trotting out the Bin Laden stuff. I am glad we got him, and Obama rightly gets credit (it was one of the few times he behaved like a President and not a candidate) but he needs more than a Pancho Villa figure in his trophy case if that's the angle they are going to take.

Bullshit. The big boys earned their position in life through being smarter and working harder. This is class warfare at it's worst.

Once they open the door to a playoff, even with just 4 teams, they introduce the possiblity of expanding to 8 teams. The hard part is getting past all the lame arguments against a playoff, once they have a playoff it's only a matter of time before they are expanded to 8, then 12 and probalby 16 teams.

I also think this helps the little guy. Under the current system, a team like Boise can go 12-0 and not get into the BCS Championship game because people will argue that they are not a top 2 team because of their schedule. It will be a lot harder to argue that a 12-0 Boise team isn't in the top 4.

I agree that the Big East appears to be screwed, but there is talk of adding another BCS bowl. The current format allows for 10 teams to play in a BCS bowl, a playoff would reduce that number to 8 since two teams will play twice. Adding another bowl game brings the number back up to 10 teams. If that happens I wouldn't be surprised if the Big East has a tie in to that bowl.

Not so fast. Have you seen the memo the CIA (Panetta) sent to the Admiral overseeing?
The timing, operational decision making and control are in Admiral McRaven’s hands. The approval is provided on the risk profile presented to the President. Any additional risks are to be brought back to the President for his consideration. The direction is to go in and get bin Laden and if he is not there, to get out. Those instructions were conveyed to Admiral McRaven at approximately 10:45 am.
Seems BHO needed some wiggle room so he could throw anyone he needed to under the bus if things didn't go well.

I read that as well. Can't hurt the Big East that there will be two Texas based Big East schools.
