Atheism is a religion

Post by SeattleGriz »

Amazing what one uncovers while reading a little about God and evolution. Seems the atheists have now started their own religion.

How fucking sad. The exact thing they all bitch about and now they have started their own.

The atheist/progressives bible (HuffPo):

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-los ... 67217.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Similarly, it's worth noting the degree to which Atheists routinely, strategically, and often vociferously position what is often described as their "secular-humanist" views against religious traditions. Read or listen to any of the celebrity Atheists of the past decade like Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, and Sam Harris and you realize that they fashion many of their arguments not against some alternative economic, political, or philosophical position but against organized religion. Religious faith is clearly their primary opponent in the contest for the intellectual allegiance of the population, which makes it hard not to conclude that they offer their views and beliefs as a viable alternative to traditional religious systems

The more atheists push their beliefs — through terror or preaching — the more they appear as another evangelical movement with faith in a philosophy that can never be proved or disproved. Atheists, welcome to the club. All you’re lacking are orphanages, AIDS hospices, missionaries, and thousands of charitable foundations. Get on it.

You Google like a master! Good finds. 'Specially that right wing "gazette.com thing". Judging by the time you posted this thread, I'd say you were at least two-and-a-half sheets to the wind...

I'm working. Halfway through a major web design project. Peek in here every once in a while to make people cringe.

You can be evangelical about anything. Doesn't make it a religion. :coffee:

I wonder what these atheists are going to talk about most of the time what with no delusions of spirits and demons floating about, no sky daddy, are they just living for today?

I guess it's easy if you try.

Oh they have their own supernatural force that magically makes everything happen from nothing...and if they don't like that one, there are multitudes of universes out there called the multiverse where anything can happen even if it is mathematically impossible. Such faith.

Did I mention they are really good at the mass killing part.

One MIGHT be able to argue atheism as a religion, though that might be stretching it, if only because there's a wide range of belief that might be termed "atheistic."

One could make a better argument for naming secular humanism as a religion. Many atheists would also fall in here, but there's no requirement for them to do so.

With the humanist manifesto as their bible?

SG: Exactly, at least for those who have bothered to actually read it. There are many who just don't want to be bothered with particulars. Of course, the same could be said of some people in the major religions as well.

Atheism is a lack of a belief in God. No doctrines. It's a religion just as much as bald is a hair style, off is a TV channel, and being a pedestrian is a form of automobile. If you're referring to humanism, not all atheists are humanists. There are multiple philosophies that are atheist in nature including objectivism and secular humanism (which are very different moral philosophies).

I know this is trolling on your part, but I'm just throwing the right answers for you to see. It's like being a Christian Theist just implies you believe in God and Jesus Christ as your savior and that is a fact. All the moral and theological philosophies of which they submit to are another question all together, like Catholicism, Orthodoxy, Protestantism, etc. Everyone has a moral philosophy and in a sense the denomination of Christianity of which one submits to is their moral philosophy. So actually secular humanism is a philosophy, not a religion. You could call it a "denomination" but it really wouldn't do it justice simply because atheism is the lack of belief in a higher power and we don't have denominations of viewpoints to things that we don't believe in. We don't call not believing in Zeus or Allah a religion, and just because one goes a single God further does not mean we should lump those who do in one group. Do you believe in String Theory? We don't lump those who don't believe in string theory into a group of people and call it a religion.
