BREAKING: Giffords Returns To Washington
Rep. Giffords just returned to the House chamber for the first time since being shot, she showed up to vote on the debt ceiling bill and was welcomed by a standing ovation from the chamber.

I'm not thrilled with this deal, but I AM glad that SOME vote of import took place. The return of Gabby Giffords trumps ALL of that stuff.
You go, girl!

Wouldn't it be nice if all Americans could get the care she received?

Cool story, and a good way to sort of unite Congress after a very rough patch with the debt ceiling.
At the risk of sounding cold hearted, at what point should she step down as a representative? She clearly isn't able at this point to put in the time for daily duties or address the questions of her constituents - maybe after some period of rehab she'll be in a better place, but that could be many months or years (or never). Sanjay Gupta on CNN this morning was saying that she has little to no use of her right side, is having to learn to write left handed, and has limited speech right now which may improve with constant rehabilitation. It's a sad situation to be sure.

She has a very strong staff, and from what I have heard, constituent services are still excellent in her district.
She was injured in the line of duty - I think we need to cut her some slack. If her constituents are not happy with her, an election is right around the corner. But knowing what I know of her, if she doesn't think she can do the job, she will retire/step down.
Re: BREAKING: Giffords Returns To Washington
Don't misunderstand me dback - I'm not advocating that she step down at this point. That being said, I know that if something catastrophic were to happen to me that left me unable to do my job I'd end up on some type of disability until the time came that I was able to return to work, that's all I'm saying.dbackjon wrote:ASUG8 wrote:Cool story, and a good way to sort of unite Congress after a very rough patch with the debt ceiling.

So, you are all over "Gabby girl" just because she is a girl, even though she is not a tea bagging right wing nut like you, ok, check!SuperHornet wrote:I'm not thrilled with this deal, but I AM glad that SOME vote of import took place. The return of Gabby Giffords trumps ALL of that stuff.

Re: BREAKING: Giffords Returns To Washington
Ultimately it will be up to her constituents if they want her to continue. Of course depending on her progress, its not out of the question she could jump in the 2012 senate race, though from what I heard today, Arizona has a early registration date, so the time frame may not work out for a senate run this time around.ASUG8 wrote:Don't misunderstand me dback - I'm not advocating that she step down at this point. 1. What Travis said matters - she'll stand for re-election and face the voters and they can decide.ASUG8 wrote:Don't misunderstand me dback - I'm not advocating that she step down at this point. 2. What Jon said - I happen to know a Giffords staffer personally - and believe me when I say that other than her missing votes during her rehab - the office has been going above and beyond to keep things moving.
3. Her cognitive abilities are just fine - she's able to process information fully - it's communicating it verbally that she's having to re-learn. (can you imagine, btw?) Which means she's fully prepared to do the study and cast the votes.

That's what I was hearing on the news this morning, that her cognition is intact but her endurance and verbal abilities are impaired currently.TwinTownBisonFan wrote: 3. I really didn't mean to come off as an ass by asking the question, but it appears I failed in that endeavor.

It is. And a question that should be asked of anyone that can not be on floor of the house or senate.

FWIW full recovery expectancy for her type of injuries is between 12 and 18 months. So by this time next year she should be as recovered as she will be expected to get. If she manages to be closer to the 12 months than the 18 it still leaves the Senate seat in play for her.

She fits in nicely with the party of the fags, layabouts, and darkies. Bitch isn't even smart enough to duck. You same douches bashed 'OL Strom for relying on his staff so much in his later years but applaud this sammie maker? FUCKING TYPICAL
