Jobs Picture Grows Worse as Weekly Claims Post Jump

"Jobs Picture Grows Worse as Weekly Claims Post Jump

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose last week, suggesting little improvement in the labor market this month after employment stumbled badly in May.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits climbed 9,000 to 429,000, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Economists had expected claims to come in at 415,000.

The report was the latest in a long-running series of data to underscore the lingering weakness in the U.S. recovery and came a day after the Federal Reserve gave a gloomier assessment of the economy........................"

We're well into his Presidency, in measures of time and money spent. Obushma promised change and made moves that were unpopular but he promised us that he and his people knew better and that his actions would fix things.

If his actions resulted in things getting better, he'd receive praise and credit (except from the lunatic fringe on both sides) for his leadership that he turned things around. He'd have most people's thanks and gratitude.

Well, things haven't turned around, so he either lied or was flat wrong. His leadership and actions have failed to deliver the very changes and hopeful outlomes that he promised us he'd deliver. In addition to adding another war in Libya (and telling Congress to pack sand...he doesn't need their permission to play cowboy), increasing our presence in Affy and expanding that war into Pakistan, Obushma has not done anything significant to improve the economy. All he has done is to give back door handouts to his supporters (how many Obushma friendly companies are getting permission to opt out of their Health Care fair share of expenses?) while shrinking from the stage. Some leadership.

So yes, thanks Obushma.

He's in the hot seat and his promises have not materialized. He certainly deserves the criticism for his failings.

It was bad enough under Bush to cause the republicans to lose the WH and more seats in Congress, and it wasn't as bad under Bush as it is now. Obama on jobs has been an abysmal failure. Thats what happens when you elect someone as POTUS that had zero business experience, who hadn't run so much as a lemonade stand, and zero executive leadership experience coming into office. An empty suit who can read well off of a teleprompter. He is in completely over his head.

Taxes are at their lowest level in 50 years, therefore we should have full employment, right :?

Bush had the lowest job growth of any presidency since WWII and turned over an economy that was losing 700,000 jobs per month. I'm not saying Obama is doing much, but let's give credit where credit is due.

BTW, what's the Republican plan?

Gawdammit Z, were talking about recovering all the jobs that Bush lost here. Try to stay focused. Obama will get on it right after he fixes Libya, healthcare, and financial reform.

Wait, healthcare (post ObamaCare) and financial reform (that Dodd-Frank thingamijig) aren't fixed? Well, there goes two and a half years down the drain. So really the only think accomplished so far is killing bin Laden? :?

You typed your response inside of my response.

Lowest job growth since WWII in what way. Total # of jobs? % of workforce? Link please.

I have no problem with anyone who wants to criticize Obama for his failures, in fact I agree, he is in charge and is responsible for what happens on his watch. I think most smart people know that the economy is cyclical and that Obama wasn't going to fix it (if there was an easy solution Bush wouldn't not have allowed things to deteriorate like they did). He said what he needed to say in order to get elected, most if not all winning politicians do.

I blame Obama for lying and blame I him for not being able to fix the economy. I don't blame him for getting us into this mess; I think that was done by the cyclical nature of economics and decades of systematic abuse carried out by both major parties.

As much as I agree that we need to worry about the deficit I am starting to come around to the point of view that reducing spending now will only make things worse. I think our top priority should be to economic recovery and we can focus on the deficit next. If we need to do more "stimulus" so be it, but we need to be smarter about how we carry out the stimulus. The overwhelming majority of stimulus spending should be on infrastructure upgrades and repair, we're going to need it anyway and in the end we will have something to show for our efforts, even if the economy is still down.
