That's kind of tired.

Really, let's be intellectually honest, the Democratic Party of today is similar to the Democratic Party of yesterday in name only. That being said, the Democratic Party today in many respects resembles the 'house foreman' on the plantation. Those 'darkies' got it so much better these days that they don't know they are still on the plantation.

I have known Robert Ford for around 20 years now, and he has undergone a transformation in that time that is interesting if not encouraging. Ford marhced with King and has been known as one of the most liberal state senators in SC. that being said, Ford has reached across the aisle more than any other politician in South Carolina in the last 10 years, and that goes for Republicans AND Democrats. He says some goofy things at times, and this was one of them, but Ford also speaks a base form of common sense truth that is refreshing. Especially given the current climate where every syllable uttered by any politician or public figure is put through a sieve to glean every possible bigoted or racist meaning.

An interesting side note to all of this is Ford's relationship with the 'unreconstructed' Glenn McConnell, Confederate extraordinaire and re-enactor also in the SC Senate. There is another article from the Post and Courier somewhere in the archives that talks about McConnell and Ford's relationship over the years and how it has developed as an example of mutual understanding and mutual sympathies.

I differ with the guy on many issues, but Robert Ford is one of the most common sense politicians in South Carolina in terms of race and ethnic identity, if for no other reason than he is always willing to put himself in the shoes of the person he might be disagreeing with or opposed to at any given time. (BTW I also disagree with him on immigration policy)

South Carolina senators and other colleagues visit was largely shrouded in secrecy, also planned to tour square and hold a news conference with the reporter. They traveled from Malta, where they meet with the minister Lawrence Gonzi on Wednesday. Don’t you think that they are making it too public because South Carolina senators not concentrating in improving life style of their people but he has time to meet other person?
