I'm a fan of this comment from the article:
I will also like to say these are the faces of the so-called liberal Whites. They get on social media and pretend to be woke. They write op-eds in the New Yorker or the Times about how Trump is the enemy. They have Democrat fundraising drives. They march with pussy hats and raise money for the Cuomo and De Blasio campaigns. Then they go home to their rich neighborhoods with undocumented and trafficked domestic help. They decline Black people’s resumes and housing loan applications. They pay their Grammercy Park and private club dues. They spend more money for some NYU student to walk their dog than they give to charity. They even attend board meetings to keep Black and Latinx kids out of their well-funded schools. These are your typical ‘I would have voted for Obama a 3rd term’ Armitages from “Get Out” type White people. They will always scare me more than the southern KKK Confederate flag wearing Whites, because at least those monsters don’t pretend to be your allies.
NYC does a great job attracting a diverse pool of people from all over the US and world, but there's no denying that NYC has a segregation problem (particularly in Manhattan).
Cue me. I've been saying this for a long time.
I've known quite a number of liberal white people from suburban Atlanta (many are "yankee" transplants) who like to shake their finger at how backwards the south is but will commute two hours total a day to keep their kids in lilly-white schools. It's not at all against the odds that the recent racial controversy happened in a Starbucks in a liberal white part of Philadelphia and not in a McDonalds or Waffle House in the small-town South.
People make fun of the "I can't be racist, I have a black friend" mantra from southern conservatives, but the white liberal mantra appears to be "I can't be racist, I like Maya Angelou and Will Smith".
