On a serious note, I have an Olympic trial swimmer designing my workouts. Completely changed my diet (it was first week of June, not July per my edit). Been working out religiously three lifting sessions, three cardio per week. That goes to four lifting sessions next week. The transformation and gains were slow the first month and have really accelerated in months two and three. I'm loving the results. I can share my workouts if you want me to send you the spreadsheet. Let me know.

I know I failed miserably in HS for the Presidents Physical Fitness test. I was 6'3" and 235lbs at the time. But did 80+ pushups in a minute. Fuck those tests. Everyone is different.

The Marine Corps changed it's rules in ~1998 from allowing a kipping motion in the pull-up to only allowing the dead hang motion. Pretty much anybody that doesn't weigh 250+ lbs can bust out 20 pull-ups with a kip. You're basically inchworming yourself over the bar. Once they went to dead hang, a lot of folks dropped down to the ~15 range on their PFTs. It was a good move by the Marine Corps. It made the perfect 300 point PFT an accomplishment. I never got a 300 pt PFT because I could only run 3 miles in 19 minutes (need 18 min for 100 pts on the run).

Pull ups are a "beat the clock" thing. The longer you hang, the more tired you get.
I use to be able to do a fair amount, but I would start swinging and it would screw me up. I think it was because of the heavy weight in the crotch. I had no counterbalance.

At Towson we, o-lineman, used to throw a towel over the pull up bar and hang there. Gives you super grip! Remember, it's only holding if the ref throws the flag!
