In a closely contested race whoever wins the most primary/caucus delegates in the state races before the convention could still not win the nomination (in theory at least) if most of the Super delegates at the convention went to who had the 2nd most primary/caucus delegates.

Super delegates are bullshit. You have the will of the people voting and then you allow special Democrats/Republicans (Congress, Governors, Mayors, etc...) an EXTRA vote because...why not? I know it's about 15% of the total delegate count but it's bull ****.

Here's a brief history:

In 1968, after the riots at the Democratic national convention in Chicago, party leaders knew they needed to change the nomination process to give ordinary people more of a say in how the potential president was chosen. Thus, the state-by-state primary/caucus system was born. By the 1980s, the party elites felt left out of the process, bereft of all influence, and they thought their absence had hurt the party when weaker candidates like George McGovern and Jimmy Carter were nominated. Jim Hunt, Governor of North Carolina, was commissioned to fix the alleged problem, and by 1984 the Superdelegate system was implemented. Democrats thought that by giving more power to party leaders, it would prevent “unelectable” candidates, beloved by the populace, from costing them the general election.

This whole super delegate thing was invented to the powers that be ensure one of their own make it to the general election. Now they have an outsider on their hands and are shitting themselves.
