2016 Republican Primary
Re: 2016 Republican Primary
Kasich is speaking at 11:00 today, 3 miles from my house at Scout Boats. Damn, I wish I didn't have a telecon at that time. I'm looking forward to hearing him, but I know there will be ample opportunities in the future.

Re: 2016 Republican Primary
Polls suggest trump has a plurality with all the candidates being considered but I suspect that if you were to do some "match up" polls with him going head to head against each of the other Republican candidates there are some he'd be blown out by. Like if you just made the two choices him or Jeb Bush I suspect Bush would come out way ahead. Same with Scott Walker and Marco Rubio. I think what's happening is that the more traditional candidates are splitting picks in polls. Like if you were to poll whether Republicans would vote for Bush or Trump I think just about all that say they'd vote for Walker, Rubio, Paul, etc., when given all the Republican candidates as choices would vote for Bush over Trump.Trump takes a significant early lead
The problem for Trump is that there is a very large component that would not vote for him under any circumstances. Here's one article on that:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the ... g-for-him/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I don't know exactly what he's up to but he's got to know he has NO shot. All he can possibly do is screw up what is looking more and more like a good Republican shot to retake the Presidency. Sometimes I wonder if he's like a Democrat plant.

Re: 2016 Republican Primary
They usually do head-to-head matchup polling like that for the general election.
No point to do them for the primary... since... you know... they're campaigning against each other and not head-to-head.
Look at battleground states, sure. But, head-to-head seems pointless to look at in a primary at this point.

Re: 2016 Republican Primary
The longer Bernie hangs around the more it hurts Hillary's campaign. The best move a Rep in IA might be able to make for the party is to vote for Bernie in the Dem caucuses. He does well there or in NH and it puts a serious dent into Hillary's attempt to be the inevitable above the fray candidate. Plus she has a limited shelf life in a campaign. The longer she's in the spotlight the more her warts show and the more she just wears on people. Her best bet is to finish this early so she doesn't really have to campaign until the general election.houndawg wrote:I believe it. That didn't work out so well in '08 when she was also considered to the inevitable candidate. Trump lead growing nationally... and, doing well in Iowa and New Hampshire.
http://onpolitics.usatoday.com/2015/07/ ... ee-points/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Even after a week of attacks over his criticism of John McCain, Donald Trump continues to lead the Republican Party presidential field, a new CNN/ORC poll says.
Trump, at 18% among Republican and GOP-leaning voters, leads Jeb Bush at 15% and Scott Walker with 10%, the survey says.
The many other Republican candidates are in single digits.
“Trump’s backing has climbed 6 points since a late-June poll, while support for Bush and Walker has not changed significantly,” CNN reports.
Two other NBC News-Marist polls also show Trump doing well in the early contest states of Iowa and New Hampshire.
The billionaire leads in New Hampshire with 21%, followed by Bush at 14%, and Walker at 12%.
Walker, the governor of Wisconsin, leads in neighboring Iowa with 19%, followed by Trump at 17%, and Bush at 12%, according to the NBC-Marist survey.

Trump vs Sanders would be a hoot!
Never happen, but it would be hysterical! Larry David will play Sanders in the movie.

Re: 2016 Republican Primary

http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/28/politics/ ... index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;A conservative North Carolina congressman began an effort early Tuesday evening to challenge House Speaker John Boehner's leadership.
Rep. Mark Meadows, who was among the group of House Republicans who voted against re-electing Boehner in January, filed a "motion to vacate the chair," which would strip Boehner of his leadership post, if successful.
But a majority of the House would need to back the motion. Because Meadows didn't file it as a "privileged" resolution, it does not automatically get a vote but is referred to the Rules committee, a panel stacked with Boehner allies.
Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions learned about the resolution from reporters, and said he is still getting the details on it.
Leadership aides on both sides of the aisle were stunned by Meadows' move.

Donald Trump says he'd tap![]()
Sarah Palin for a Cabinet post
Donald Trump has succeeded in alienating many of his fellow Republicans with his personal attacks, but if he does win in November 2016 and is forced to assemble a cabinet of GOP allies, he knows exactly whom he would call on: Sarah Palin.
When asked on Sarah Palin’s Mama Grizz Radio’s “The Palin Update” Monday whether he would seek the former Alaska governor’s advice as president or potentially appoint her to an executive-branch position, Trump said, “I’d love that.”
“She’s really somebody who knows what’s happening. She’s a special person. She’s really a special person. And I think people know that and she’s got a following that’s unbelievable,” he continued. (Palin has more than 4 million Facebook followers.)

Re: 2016 Republican Primary
I'm still trying to figure out Trump's angle. I truly don't think he really wants to be president, but he's incendiary equivalent of driving a truck full of explosives into the GOP candidates and see what shakes out in the end. Maybe he's there to make the other guys expose their views on sensitive subjects and he's the vetter-in-chief for the Republicans.
Either way, I see Trump flaming out within the next 3-4 months. He's going to step hard enough on his dick soon and it won't be recoverable.
