I don't think it's so much as tolerating it, as not having many options to change it. You can't really tell sovereign nations how to treat their people, as backwards and abhorrent as that treatment may be.Chizzang wrote:Well I'll mark this moment down on my f_cking calendar...Ivytalk wrote:I'll give credit where credit is due!

Right but you can make a global statement
You can posture globally
you can meet with those leaders and televise the meeting and their explanations
The list of humiliations goes on and on and on... of which we do almost nothing
Because we don't actually care about human rights - we do NOT want to bring light to the situation
we care about cheap foreign labor and funneling their national resources into our coffers
We are NOT the guiding light of freedom - we are a mouthpiece that talks a good game

The spread of Wahabi Sunni Islam by Saudi Arabia... that, in turn gave rise to Taliban, Al Qaeda, and now ISIS. It's an extreme sect of Islam... and, yes... it has gained a lot of traction in the last couple of decades. But, it doesn't represent all of the 1,000,000,000+ muslims in the world.
If a distinction between Wahabi and other sects of Islam is too nuanced... at the very least a distinction needs to be made between Sunni and Shiite. Hamas, Al Qaeda, Sunni, the VAST majority of all the Islamic terrorist organizations are Sunni and encouraged by Saudi Arabia.

Re: Just kill the snake
Ok. So, what is your solution?
Do you agree with JSO that we should just kill all 1,000,000,000 muslims in the world?
Are you slightly more moderate and think that we should deport or execute all 2,500,000 muslims in this country?
If you see this as "THE #1 problem" - what is your solution to it?

Not sure I agree here, Cleets. Try having a liberal party, freedom of religion (or to practice anything at all) or the freedom of expression to even discuss anything contrary to the teachings of the Koran anywhere in the Arabian peninsula. We're imperfect and the great Satan, but we are at least afforded those rights and are likely viewed by a silent group in those areas as a guiding light of freedom.Chizzang wrote: Right but you can make a global statement

Yeah, I've seen that.
You do know that Maajid Nawaz is a muslim, right?
He and his organization is fighting against Islamic EXTREMISM (which doesn't exist according to you and JSO).
The Middle East they're working toward is exactly the Middle East that I posted previously - the Middle East that existed briefly post-WWII.
Again, so what is you position again? If this is "THE #1 problem" what is our solution? Is it the final solution ala JSO?

Jeezus...
One f_cking guy is not the answer
So there's is (to date) one human being on earth who is Islamic and willing to stand up against Islam
Well lets throw a f_cking party then, problem solved
The spotlight of common sense and humanitarian progress needs to be blazing brightly on the largely backwards religion of Islam - I will side with Sam Harris on this issue - Not you SKjelly (sorry)
Islam is a train wreck and no amount of apologies and excuses changes that

Former Ambassador to Croatia Peter Galbraith is claiming President George W. Bush was unaware that there were two major sects of Islam just two months before the President ordered troops to invade Iraq, RAW STORY has learned.
In his new book, The End of Iraq: How American Incompetence Created A War Without End, Galbraith, the son of the late economist John Kenneth Galbraith, claims that American leadership knew very little about the nature of Iraqi society and the problems it would face after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein.

Cleets, I don't think you can say that Islam has always been "extremely brutal and backwards." I will grant you that today's Islam is a different animal entirely and due to Wahabism and other extremist sects it is moving in the wrong direction from a Western perspective. I am not an expert on Islam and thus don't know if a moderate version is even possible any more.
