I'm no warrior fat boy... and I do not pretend to be
But I do recognize a warrior when I see one - and I've seen you up close butterscotch pimple grease - and you are no warrior

I've been lucky
The warriors that I've bumped into in my life have (for some reason) taken a liking to me
I have all the respect in the world for a true warrior
They've been good to me - far more kind than I would have ever imagined - disturbingly brutal to others but kind to me.... and I don't know why

Wars are ALWAYS about philosophy to some point. Mainly, the philosophy that someone, or group of people, is entitled to someone else's power and wealth.
Don't waste our time, Mini-Kalm. The current Islam war is SOLELY about maintaining their mythos founded culture. It has NOTHING to do with wealth, land or form of govt.

Vietnam grew out of post WWII domino doctrine (form of govt).

Google "mythos v logos" and any number of adjuncts,."war on terror", " Islam", etc...and you'll find numerous discussions on the topic. I specifically QUALIFIED THE PAPER I HAD LINKED AS A CLIFF NOTES version...neither comprehensive or complete.

So we're at war with Islam, but should coddle Muslims in the lands we've invaded and quit allowing the NGO's to shove our ideals down their throats? That way they'll side with us instead of the Taliban? Hey, maybe they'll eventually become our ally in this war like Saudi Arabia and Bahrain! That way, they can continue practicing their faith of brutal repression and violence because they'll be OUR Muslims!

Man, you're all over the place here.

As for googling mythos vs Lagos, I really didn't stumble across anything of interest, but it did cause me to remember that

1). The Muslims invented algebra
2). Saladin was a noble warrior
3). Karl Rove used to whistle "Onward Christian Soldiers" while strolling down the halls of the whitehouse.

Some Muslims are at war with us. But remember, 92% of afghani males had never heard of 9/11...at least before we started dropping shit on their wedding parties.

Want to win the war against Islam? Empower girls. And perhaps give more money to peaceful countries like Morrocco or moderate countries like Turkey and quit funding brutal dictatorships.

I've always felt that wars are about ideology and/or wealth (either too much or lack of).

America, 1770s: No taxation without representation. Buy Local, Eat Local.

France, 1790s: We're poor! We're starving! You've wasted all of our money! You blew it all helping the Americans. Let them eat cake? (Marie never actually said that) Eat my pitch fork!!!!!!!

Imperial Japan: We're a small island-nation. We have limited resources. Those Chinese don't deserve them. Those other Pacific Islanders are sub human. Let's conquer them and take their resources.

Nazi Germany: We lost the Great War b/c of the Jews. You don't have enough food to feed your young b/c of the Jews. Oh, look at those resource rich areas. I must have them.

America, 2002: The bad guy hates our freedom, we must protect our freedom and, oh btw, there's oil over there to pay for it all.

Most Islamic countries: You aren't Muslim! DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:butt:

You are confusing what is happening, and what has happened, with what you are being told is happening and has happened.

The modernization of, or fight against, Islam is not a new war or a different war. And it is not a war that is that far behind, relatively speaking, the wars, or fights involving, the reduction of other religion's influence on the political leaders and social constructs of countries and empires throughout time. Today, large parts of Thailand still believe that their king is a reincarnated Hindu god. Cripes, it wasn't long ago that we had people dying for a Japanese Emperor that people also related to a God. European kings, the Pharaohs, the ephors, the Kennedys, or any other myth based form of leadership have always been an obstacle to real freedom.

So let's not try to invent a "new" form of enemy.

The American Revolution, the French Revolution, and any uprising against entrenched power, has always been about the concept of freedom and self determination, whether on an individual basis or as a group of people. And that fight has repeatedly gone up against "mythos", real, imagined, or artificially produced, of all kinds, and still does, because it is really hard for leaders to honestly get away with saying, "Hey, I think YOU should kill THEM, to help ME, a fellow human, have a better life."

All we've done in our recent history, and what most leaders have done throughout all of history, is insert the mythos of the Communist boogie man, or whatever is the overarching bad concept/religion/principle du jour, into our enemy to get our people to fight so that someone on our side ends up with more power.

Nothing has changed. Not even the enemy.
