Unfortunately, politics in DC also requires compromise and the Tea Party has shown a complete unwillingness to compromise and that has put the Republicans in a bad situation from a negotiating perspective. Moderate Republicans in swing districts won't take a hard-line stand so when push comes to shove they've demonstrated that they will cave and go with the Democratic proposals rather than risk deadlock.

Libertarians are also willing to seriously cut spending as well and they're willing to do it without the social policy agenda.

That's why this is the only option left for true conservatives.

Good points. Republicans do need to do a better job articulating their message that the AVG JOE can understand.
Tea Partiers DO articulate their message. It's just drowned out by the talking heads at the White House, MSNBC, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, Comedy Central, and rational people that understand majorities and how to count votes.

Well, when you leave it up to the mouth breathers at Faux News to convey a political message, it doesn't really stand a chance, does it?

Not compromising will do more harm. How do you not understand that?
There is at least an arguable position that it is compromise that got us to this point in the first place.

It doesn't matter in the end, because our fiscal situation is going to force our choices in the future.

Yep. And none of those choices are good. We are way past the point where any good choices are left.

Does anyone honestly expect meaningful compromise to come of the sequester negotiations? The only thing that will come of it will be everyone kicking the can down the road...again... :ohno:

I say let the sequester hit. Fuck it.

Yeah, the so called "compromise" that some people on here are so high on.

Spoiler: show
The meetings I've been in are preparing for the cuts. I can only guage it from the Navy Side but it's going to hurt.

The Defense Budget was bloated due to Iraq and Afghanistan. We need to throttle back. I'm not excited about a "peanut butter spread" of cuts. I think that is dangerous and idiotic, however we have not been given any choices.

Congress has had 2 years to correct this. They've had 2 years to avoid the problems (i'm starting the clock at Dec. 2010) and in that time they rose taxes, literally at the last minute. What makes anyone believe they'll accomplish in 1 month something they couldn't do in 2 years? I think we should have it hit. We should raise the retirement age. People are living longer than they were in the 1930's when SS was enacted. We need to reform our taxes. We need to cut stupid programs and consolidate duplicative agencies and/or functions.

Holidays don't last forever. School holidays, work holidays, personal holidays, tax holidays. They end at some point. They must end. I don't like having $96 less each month, but if it is going to secure our future (which I honestly doubt) then I wouldn't be opposed. I didn't like the way it happened. Both parties are playing a dangerous game. Obama got his revenue. He now needs to give the spending cuts.

So correct that the good choices are behind us and this is going to hurt. However, the sooner we take action the less drastic it will need to be.

Taxes have been raised, spending needs to be cut. Every dollar spent benefits someone, so it is going to hurt someone. I just hope the hurt gets spread around and not concentrated.

No problem with a small amount of additional revenue generated through closing loopholes and narrowing deductions, but real spending cuts, not just reducing the amount of the increase in government spending need to be made.

There is waste and duplication that needs to be addressed, but that alone is not enough. The scope of what the government does needs to be reduced in ways other than pushing unfunded mandates upon the states.

I'm sure we agree on many things. I try very much to be unbiased and see things or as they truly are. Being part Of the military industrial complex has really opened my eyes.
