Re: Biden/Ryan Debate
Joe did better than I expected, but at one point I asked my buddy "which of these guys do you really want as president?". Crazy Uncle Joe showed up last night in full form......if you like an over the top, rude, interrupting guy then Joe is your guy. I thought Ryan was pretty restrained although his quip about Biden's gaffes was uncalled for IMHO.

By the way, CNN has Ryan winning 48 to Biden's 44, with a 5% margin of error, so a toss up.
Biden wasted him. Another stupid prediction from AzzGreazeFan.

Re: Biden/Ryan Debate
At the end of the day last night won't matter, but I think Biden carried the night. The GOP was hoping Joe would make one of his infamous blunders and were reduced to calling him rude & childish at the end of the night. I want to like Ryan but he makes it hard. I think Ryan made 2 mistakes last night - one was going on about how well Romney did in MA as the governor & Biden zinged him on that saying Mitt's not even competing for MA. Then when the moderator asked him two or three consecutive times on what tax deductions or credits they plan on cutting/modifying he didn't have specifics and worse yet said they wanted to provide a framework and then make a bipartisan agreement on it. If there was anything more disingenuous last night it was every time either guy mentioned the word bipartisan.

Re: Biden/Ryan Debate
Pretty much a push last night. Conks will rail on about how Ryan won and Joe looked senile and Donks will rail on about how Biden won and Ryan looked evil. But for the rest of us without partisan biases, it was pretty even. What I got out of last night, and no, not all of this was brand new information:
- Neither party has an answer for the economy. The Dems want to just keep plowing ahead (not necessarily forward) with the same slop we've had for the past 4 years, and the GOP wants to cut taxes, cross their fingers, and then see what happens. Not really encouraging from either side.
- What a mess the Libya situation is starting to be. Where was I when it came out that there was never even a movie protest there? That actually was news to me last night. So we spent almost a week after the fact decrying the fact that there was this Youtube movie trailer that incited the Muslim world, and bad men took advantage of this awful slight of religion that we had an ambassador killed (and maybe we shouldn't allow stupid people to make stupid movies - man, that could shut Youtube and New Line Cinema down permanently!), when it turns out that there was never such a protest and this was a well-planned assassination of a US ambassador, on 9/11 no less. If this happened under Bush's watch the Donks would be rabid, just like Conks are rabid now. But frankly, it's just simply disturbing that this hasn't been a bigger story.
- I actually kind of miss Jim Leher. Not that I think Martha Raddick (sp) didn't do a good job last night, as I thought her questions were far better and she was able to steer the debate to the next section with better ease, but I did hear too much of her last night. I always think the moderator should be like a good ump and you shouldn't even notice them. While Leher took that to the extreme, I did get to hear just Romney and just Obama for the entirety of that debate. Last night it felt like there were 3 candidates on stage. If there's a way to get the same control from the moderator without them being part of the story, that would be my preference.
So my take was just a tie really - no one landed any big blows and no one really flubbed something. It should stop the bleeding from Obama's poor performance in the first debate, but the next two debates will certainly change the tone and state of the race again. Looking forward to it.

I must not have gotten all of the jokes Ryan was telling last night, but VPOTUS must have loved his set. Dude couldn't stop laughing.BlueHen86 wrote:He is doing his job, he is being an attack dog. The post debate spin will consist of the Dems saying what a great job Biden did and the GOP saying what an ass Biden is.
In all seriousness, I think it was a draw (despite what the partisans will say). VPOTUS came out and tried to clean up POTUS' mess from the last debate. Ryan acted much more respectful, but to a fault where he didn't look aggressive. Ryan clearly seemed like the adult, though at moments he did seem like he was being yelled at by a grumpy old man.
I do think it's sad that Ryan has been criticized for being "too detailed."
I agree with a previous post that if you listened to the debate, VPOTUS won. If you watched the debate, Ryan won. The next Presidential debate will be basically back to square one...we'll have to see if POTUS takes the night off again.

VPOTUS acts like a child (maybe that's why you liked his performance--it's relatable) and not vice-presidential because he's cleaning up your boy POTUS' mess from the last debate. At least Ryan was able to conduct himself with some sort of decorum, despite his defending Romney's policies.

Re: Biden/Ryan Debate
I like Lew Rockwell's synopsis of the debate the best:
"I'd guess that Biden "won" the forum—not a debate—51–49 over Ryan. But so what? We saw two lifetime "public servants,"snouts in the trough, differ in rhetoric and body language only. There were no substantive differences on what the government gang should do. Biden and Ryan are both warmongers, welfare statists, torturers, spenders, taxers, and in general domestic and foreign tyrannizers. Both men are servants of the State and the power elite, fighting over what specific interests get to loot the taxpayers and murder foreigners over the next four years. I vote no on Ryden."
