Re: Evolution vs Whatever
SG, creationist theory IS studied, and afforded great toleration, rather comprehensively, in religious schools and classes and at church by billions of people. What's your problem? That when it tries to enter the scientific world it's castigated? That's what should happen. Creationism aint science.SeattleGriz wrote:But don't you see how anyone who even proposes an alternate idea is castigated. If Evolutionists were to truly follow their own rules, they would welcome any and all objections and disprove them. Doing that would make the Evolutionary theory stronger, but they don't. They ridicule and drum up straw man arguments. Can you imagine what would happen to funding for a Creationist at a University? Gone, and most likely lose their job.youngterrier wrote:
But one day, we'll probably have the answers, and I'd rather follow a theory with some scientific evidence, follow the reasoning behind it (we're uncovering more and more fossils every few year it seems) than concede "Aw shit I have no fucking clue" and submit to a theory that cannot be scientifically proven. That's the point of science, they're lots of theories but not all of them are perfect. It's why we build on theories that can be proven or tested as opposed to throwing the hat in and saying we can't know. You're welcome to follow your own personal philosophy but don't throw it in with Science (I'm pretty sure you haven't done that in this thread though). Evolution isn't perfect by any stretch, but it's the most perfect/best explanation we have as of yet, and until someone can propose an alternative that is ACTUALLY scientific it's going to be automatically assumed that you believe in the alternative, which is apeshit science because it's not science.
SG, creationism aside, are there any other "alternate ideas"?

There is no such thing as evolution, DNA, or "natural selection". Although, it appears that AIDS, Swine Flu, and West Nile Virus appeared only in the last 100 years as the product of rapid replication and adaptation, they in fact were intelligently designed to kill all us F***s.

How about this? We don't teach evolution or intelligent design in science classroom. Let the science curriculum be dictated by what we need to be competitive in the marketplace - i.e., math, physics, engineering, computer science, and chemistry. Evolutionary biology never cured a single fucking disease or improved technology, unless you want to go out on a limb and fit the study of microbial antibiotic resistance under the umbrella of evolutionary biology. In fact, very few doctors and biomedical scientists have any kind of training in biology because even though many won't admit it, evolutionary biology is completely irrelevant.

We should teach evolution until a better theory comes along. Intellegent design isn't a theory, it's just made up crap, like Rumplestiltskin or Shrek.Pwns wrote:How about this? If we are apes, then why do apes have 24 chromosome pairs and man only 23? Must have lost that pair with the hair. I will admit that is a weak reply and mostly incorrect, but your supposition is just as weak.
SG, perhaps you should do some more research before you bring your admittedly weak comeback into this discussion.
The reason why we have 23 chromosomal pairs and why Chimps/Apes have 24 has been scientifically described. In fact, the discovery only provides more evidence for Macroevolution (which you are asking evidence for). I will give you a research hint: Human Chromosome 2. Though this one piece wouldn't make the evolution argument stand alone, there are other bits of evidence.
Examine:
1. ERVs : Since you brought math and probabilities into the picture earlier, look into what ERVs are. Then, with your knowledge of the Human and Chimp genome (size), calculate the odds that 1 ERV would be found in the exact same location in both the Human and Chimp genome. After that calculation, calculate the odds that there would be 16 ERV's in the exact same genomic location in both the Human and Chimp genomes. Once you have thought about that for a bit and come to the conclusion that "hey, these could just be random occurrences that have ended up this way due to transposition," calculate the odds that 16 random insertions into the genome would end up in the exact same location in two different species due to retrotransposition. But yeah, "god could have made it that way."
2. mtDNA : I don't know how literal you are with the creation story or the biblical interpretation, but look into mtDNA. This blows any "The earth was created 6,000 years ago" or "global flood" story out of the water so to say. As for a macroevolution point, this is especially evident in Drosophila and certain plant lineages.
3. Gene Duplications and Pseudogenes: particularly the steroid 21-hydroxylase pseudogene and its existence in Humans and Chimps. Also, examine why gene duplication would independently explain/correlate the previously described evolutionary lineage of macaques, orangutans, chimpanzees, and humans.
