http://www.marketwatch.com/story/trump- ... 2017-06-01President Donald Trump has granted waivers to at least 16 White House officials to allow them to work on issues they handled in their private-sector jobs, according to disclosures released by the White House late Wednesday.
The number of waivers granted to White House staff in the first four months of the Trump administration -- the same number former President Barack Obama gave out during his eight years in office -- calls further into question Trump’s campaign pledge to rid Washington of special interests and “drain the swamp.” The waivers allow officials who spent recent years lobbying the government on behalf of corporate clients to now weigh in on those same issues.
The White House posted the waivers late Wednesday after a tense back-and-forth with the Office of Government Ethics, which had requested information about the waivers in an effort to determine if the Trump administration was following federal ethics rules. Among those rules: an executive order Trump signed in January requiring former lobbyists to recuse themselves from matters on which they had lobbied for two years after their appointment.

Re: The Official "Making America Great Again" Thread
It wasn't the economy that got Trump elected. That's not me. I'm just reporting what the objective data say. Again: The majority of the people who considered the economy the most important issue voted for Hillary. They did it nationally and they did it State by State including in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. If you still believe that Trump won because of the economy you are just one of those people who starts off believing something and insists on continuing to believe it even though the data clearly contradict your belief.93henfan wrote:It's not the economy, stupid. - JSO
The economy wasn't bad in any case. The stock markets setting records today, for example, is just continuation of a trend that was well established during the Obama Administration. As you can see from the image below (Dow Jones Industrial Average in red) there was a big dip just before Obama got elected then the trend has been generally upward since around December, 2009. It's set records numerous time as it ticked up during 2013 through 2017 period.

The economy has been consistently improving for something on the order of 8 years now.

It's you guys that need to get over a hurdle. Not that it's that important. But the data clearly show that it wasn't the economy and if you guys want to deal with reality you need to get over the hurdle of the tendency to stick to what you believe when the data clearly contradict it.CAA Flagship wrote:93henfan wrote:It's not the economy, stupid. - JSOJSO will never get over that hurdle.

What I WILL say is that I am surprised that such is the case. It amazes me, for instance, that the stock market continues in an upward trend when we have a mentally ill person in the President's position. I am happy that the stock market has continued to rise because I am nearing retirement and I am invested in it. But I am truly surprised that people are willing to bet on the future when we have a mentally ill clown who had no idea as to what he is doing in the White House.

More swamp drainin'
http://thehill.com/homenews/administrat ... 1497052482Lawyers for the Justice Department are arguing that President Trump isn’t violating a Constitutional provision that bars federal officials from accepting payments from foreign governments because the clause doesn’t apply to certain transactions.
In a new brief asking a judge to throw out a lawsuit brought against Trump by ethics watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), DOJ lawyers contend that the foreign emoluments clause doesn’t apply to “fair-market commercial transactions” like payments for hotel rooms and golf club fees, according to Bloomberg.
Trump administration lawyers also argue that CREW and other plaintiffs lack legal standing to bring the case against Trump and that Congress, not the court system, should determine whether Trump is in violation of the emoluments clause.
