Hell, that happens everywhere. In Sussex County, DE, the Methodists run everything, and there's a real pecking order among the local Methodist churches. When I tell them I'm an Episcopalian, it generally shuts them up.

I had a buddy get a raise at work. A month later, someone from the office of the Methodist Church he attends calls and says that now that he got a raise, they expect him to tithe more. Needless to say, he doesn't attend that church anymore.

Tennessee is a beautiful state, and its people are very friendly. Our son went to college between Chatty and Nashville, and we go to know plenty of people from both towns while he was there. I know a lot of skilled and sophisticated lawyers from Nashville and Memphis, and they can match legal talent with any firm in NY or DC.

Funny story: at my sister's wedding reception last year, I was sitting right next to the wedding party's table with my family. My sister's some sort of pseudo-vegetarian, and only eats seafood. The rest of us were eating a delicious whole-roated hog, and she was having salmon or something. At one point my grandma says "hmm, something smells like fish in here".

In my half-drunk state, without considering the double entendra, I lean over and say to her "hey, [insert real name here], your fish is stinking up the whole place!"
