But it is rare to see the GF. I found it interesting that Sam's BF was sure to be in the camera shot. I didn't think it was "intentional" until I heard about his upcoming reality show. Now I know it was intentional.

Subliminal advertising at it's best.
That should be real nail biter

Gay player and his travails on the scout team until he is eventually cut
They could make a show like that using ex-Citadel players.

The only two we have in the NFL are straight

They're both starters too, so no scout team nancing around and drama

Well when we re-institute the draft and it gets done to people involuntarily then come back and we'll talk. It is harder to make your argument with a 100% volunteer army. The military is certainly training people how to react, how to use weapons, etc - but largely they aren't teaching people how to think (unless we are talking about the sensitivity training).

I was mainly making a tongue in cheek comment before, but personally I don't have a problem with the Dolphins or any other private business or organization having reeducation (that's what it is). If you don't like it, find someone else to work for. One day when I get tired of all the sensitivity training and reasonable accomodation bullcrap I'll go do something else. For now, I use those things as an opportunity to catch up on my sleep/reading/etc.

Your guess of 75% is WAY off.

It wasn't even that bad during Vietnam when there WAS a draft.

Plus, your belief that the military can mind fvck people into being killers after 8-13 weeks of sensitivity training, EEO training, learning how to fold your tighty whities and shoot a rifle is worthy of Spandos.

Well I have a whole bunch more to say...
I've found (over the years) The psychologically FULLY INVESTED patriot isn't a particularly reliable source on matters such as these... there's a whole bunch of misplaced pride / Once you join the Military you become predisposed to defend that decision - very powerfully psychologically deep rooted defense of the decision to the point of complete and utter denial - It's like nothing I've ever seen really

And fascinatingly all one has accomplished TODAY by joining is you have successfully implemented yourself as a disposable tool in a larger Machine built with throwaway parts... Exxon Mobil and Royal Dutch Shell now have more to say about your life's dreams and goals at this point than anybody else

The Nazi's are gone...
Patriotism serves only one purpose now and it's poorly hidden under "TERRORISM" and Taliban jingo

I'm not sure where you get me defending the military- you pounce on the slightest whiff when it comes to your pet peeves

But what I see is a lot of idealistic outrage and drama from you and very little "here's what I would propose in lieu of what we have"

Why would I be outraged..?
It all makes my life easier - somebody has to die for Patriotism (corporate profits same same)
so I can eat drink and drive at far far below what I should rightfully pay for such things

:kisswink: It works FOR ME

Remember the Marines sign in Iraq
America is NOT at War
America is at the Mall

Somebody has to die for soccer moms to put bumper stickers on their car..
The irony is almost too rich (it's like frosting) and another odd thing is how angry it makes some folks by just pointing this stuff out - like somehow "observing it" makes me evil or something... (weird)

Well now you have diverged away from arguing that our military uses reeducation to something that I agree with so I really am not sure where you are going

Not entirely...
Have you seen the Advertisements for the Marines and the Army...
Because THAT is some serious bullsh!t right there - the first phase of reeducation begins on the marketing team delivery system

I've been in and around the military - and in the enlisted ranks (where I served) I NEVER met other sailors soldiers or Marines who didn't already know intrinsically that they are NOT a valuable commodity. It is one of the oldest truisms in the history of military history- and it is nothing new or unique to the US Military.

it seems as though it is some shiny new concept to you

every antiwar-antimilitary canard ever invented - was invented IN the military. Think about that one- "His guts, OUR blood".... FUBAR.... BOHICA... On the inside (somewhere you have never seen) the military is one of the most self-deprecating organizations anywhere.

On the outside the posters and commercials might make it look glamorous, but on the inside there is no amount of propaganda or whatever you want to call it that can whitewash it

I already said all I have to say.

I find your uncharacteristic refusal to use common sense on this subject disappointing.

:coffee:
and after as little as 3+ years active duty gotten up to 80k for college....

and received job training in one of hundreds of MOSes that can be used to gain careers in high tech, engineering, health care, logistics, etc, etc, etc. Afterall, the overwhelmingly majority of the military is combat support, with job training that is directly applicable to civilian life. Combat Arms MOSes (trigger pullers) only make up a fraction of the military.

(weird)
Even IF that was true you're still paying for it. Your tax dollars that go towards the current military & retired (VA, pensions, GI bill)....
