Paul's right on this issue. He's painting Christie as a same old same old pretend conservative and I do think that is going to resonate with younger voters.

If Paul could steer away from the more batty side of his message (drones blowing up Americans as they sip their lattes in street corner cafes) he'd be a real contender. Paul's problem is that he makes it easy to paint him with the mythical anarchist libertarian brush.

Christie would probably make a good president
I mean seriously - look what we've had for the past 15 years
But he'll never make it through the primaries / when the Conservative Nut-Balls take over :dunce:

I liked Christie a lot more before this became an issue. Now I'm worried that while he appears to be an extremely competent governmental chief executive/administrator which the country could really benefit from he might also be a big government Republican like Dubya. He scared off some independent support with this stance.

Cid's right about Paul. He needs to tone down the batshit crazy stuff. I'm not sure if he can do it on his own and if he hires a "handler" does he move toward becoming an insider?

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

If the Republicans could find somebody who wasn't busily licking the Religious Rights balls and pandering to that group of myopic self serving narcissists... They'd have a legitimate shot at my vote

We need a fiscally responsible president
who isn't in bed with nut-balls and people who think Jeezus is coming back to rule the world next year
The Republicans are staring to look like Iranians in Men's Warehouse suits

Rant aside
Fiscally responsible / not crazy / is that too much to ask..?

So, the Republicans have Bible-thumping loons (no argument from me) and the Democrats have folks like Code Pink and George Zimmerman.

Cleets...it looks like you're with me. Neither party can produce a legitimate candidate worth voting for--unless you ask AZ. And to answer your question, no it's not too much to ask...it's just too much to expect.

Each party has it's fringe that gets pandered to...
I'm looking for either of them to drop the lunatic fringe / in fact vocally dismiss the lunatic fringe

The day I hear a Democrat vocally attack the (UAW) United Auto Workers union for the sham that it is and a Republican tell me "The Bible" should have nothing to do with political agenda's I'll fall over dead

Well it wasn't the bible, but I just watched Joe Scarborough GO OFF on the Republican Fringe that wants to force a government shut-down. Evidently they're accusing people like Charles Krauthammer, Tom Coburn, and Mitt Romney of being RINO's for cautioning against this. Old Joe was practically screaming at the camera, accusing the FRINGE of being RINO's, of sabotaging the party's chances to win national elections, repeatedly calling them dumb and stupid with Mika twisting her lips, glaring, and shaking her head in embarrassment the whole time.

Should be a youtube clip of it up sometime soon. Infotainment at it's very best.

But back to the topic at hand...

Some great ideas and sometimes movements are born out of what's considered at that time, the "fringe". All the handwringing over why both parties suck should still be blamed on the system and how campaigns are financed.

The religious right and the social issues have been irrelevant for the past two elections to the point that Obama can come out as being pro gay rights with no real cost to him politically. The latest BS non-issue du jour is identity politics. I didn't hear very many (if any) questions about gay marriage in the debates but I hear questions about how unfaaaaaaaaaaair our economy is to women even though by many measures women are faring better in the recession than men.

But I guess if you consider anyone right of Obama on abortion a biblecrat then you would still say it's a big problem with republicans.

Christie uses 4 million dollars from Sandy relief fund to run pseudo-campaign ads.

I'm not sure you can definitively say that. Religion and social issues may not have directly impacted the general Presidential election but did they impact the Republican primaries and thus indirectly the general election? Did Romney steer further to the right on social issues hoping to keep Santorum, Perry, etc. from picking up momentum? Did the positions he took in the primary hurt him in the general election? The answer is subjective but the question cannot be dismissed out of hand.
