I took some Education classes - thought of being a teacher (HS level). Had classes with mostly female elementary ed students.

To a person, they all hated math, couldn't understand algebra, and were dismissive of attempts to teach them math.

This is what is teaching our kids in elementary schools - a bunch of bimbos that fear math, and instill that fear in our kids.

Well, my wife is an elementary school teacher and at least she is not a bimbo. Rather dismissive of the gentler sex there, eh? She teaches the above grade level math group for 4th grade and absolutely loves math and loves teaching it. She started off as a chemistry major in college before realizing that field is full of nerds and that she didn't want to be in a lab forever (and as a chemical engineering grad myself, I can vouch for the fact that chemistry majors are nerds).

But that important exception aside, you are correct. She is horrified at the behavior many of her fellow teachers, often women, at that level have towards math and how they model that behavior for their students, and even more so for the girl students. It's a stereotype that exists just as strongly now as it did years ago and it's tremendously unhelpful when trying to increase math, and even science education in this country. That's why Danica McKellar is so awesome - plus the fact that she's super hot and played Winnie in the Wonder Years. :thumb:

All the ladies in my classes qualified as Bimbos. Obviously there are exceptions. Apologies to Mrs GannonFan.

We must of lucked out then because my boys have had all female teachers, two of them were fresh out of student teaching, and they've all been outstanding. Two young teachers in our district went for additional training in how to teach math and organized a math carnival at our elementary that had all sorts of match contests, games and prizes and was extremely well attended, packing the gymnasium.

The other aspect is that no matter how much you progressives want to make sure that ditch diggers can make a living you can't pay them $40/hour. Certain jobs just aren't worth that much anymore and the market has to adjust if American companies want to compete.
Agreed. But the problem is the cat's already out of the bag. Ditch diggers expect iPhones, internet, cable tv too, while still being able to support a family. And we kind of need them to buy those things to drive the economy. :ohno:
Tough - taking away the undue influence that corporations have in politics should be a two-edged sword and the other edge should be taking away the undue influence that unions have in politics. Wages should be market driven and if ditch diggers aren't worth $40/hour any more, they shouldn't be getting $40/hour. If they don't like it, they should go change careers.
Being wrong about a topic is called post partisanism - kalm

MAQA - putting the Q into qrazy qanon qult qonspiracy theories since 2015.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Thank you for your attention to this matter - UNI88

My teacher horror story comes at the expense of one of my best friends. He spent the better part of a decade getting his teaching degrees and credentials only to lose it all to being accused of molestation. He landed a job as a substitute in a local school district and finally got his own class when a spot opened up. I think this was a 3rd grade class (definitely elementary level which is where he wanted to be). A mother accused him of molesting her daughter because she wasn’t eating on a regular basis. He was never alone in a room with the student (or any students for that matter) and the accusation was so outrageous that the police never questioned him. The charges were dropped and he faced no legal issues, however it still goes on his teacher record as being “accused” so he will never teach in CA at the high school level or below.

It is a huge risk for any male to invest in becoming an elementary school teacher given that all the hard work can be thrown away at the whim of an accusation. Given the climate of society today wrt the whole pedophile/molestation issue, I have no idea why any male would want to take that risk.

The only realy ways Mark could have "cheated" on a group assignment would have been to do nothing (thereby dumping all the work on his teammates) or that they ALL cheated in some aspect. If one guy tries to cheat on his own, his teammates are likely to know about it and either approve, say nothing (in either case, they're guilty, too), or they report him. Because of the high consequences of cheating and the high likelihood of getting caught, I HIGHLY doubt Mark cheated.

Nobody cheated. We had to present a group project. All 4 of got sent to the disciplinarians office. We explained it was a group project and none of the other kids were accused. He laughed and told us don't worry.

Consider yourself lucky. All of my elementary school teachers were females. And most of them were Maronite nuns. If they were not nuns, they were retired public school teachers. Not pretty. Not pretty at all.

I'll never forget transferring to public school in the 10th grade and encountering young, hot, female teachers that wore flattering pants suits and sometimes even short skirts. Made school much more interesting.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?
