Until we hear something that really gets to Trump colluding with the Russians, it's not the thing people are looking for. Manafort avoiding taxes when working as a foreign agent in the Ukraine 10 years ago? Cohen not paying taxes on his taxicab empire? Those are crimes, for sure, but far short of working with the Russians to rig the 2016 election. This was supposed to be about bigger fish.

Agreed. Heck, this just helps Trump further - if they never get to him, or even get to someone close to him, on something truly related to Russian collusion, then the masses who voted for him the first time will be even more in his corner this time around, seeing this as a long drawn out investigation, with its roots beginning even before Trump took office, and never really amounting to anything they were to be investigating for in the first place. This not being over, or even close to over, does not help the anti-Trumps at all. We're 2-3 years since the supposed Russian collusion was happening - let's start hearing about the evidence about that.

I like how Trump's inner-circle is dropping like flies. Even after he completes his term, I think there's a good chance he ends up in prison for things unrelated to Russia.

I hope the next President doesn't pardon him.

I've never said this will lead to a conviction of Trump.

DOJ policy is that a sitting president can't be indicted. Mueller/Rosenstein aren't going to go against that (despite the portrait Trump paints of them on his Twitter feed). They're by-the-book guys. Trump could be impeached if Democrats take the House - but, he'll never be convicted by the Senate.

Trump is implicated in the hush money payments Cohen made on behalf of Trump if he knew about them. And, you know as well as I do he probably did. Just what evidence there is - Cohen tapes, documents, testimony.

As to Russia - we'll see. There were a whole host of unindicted Americans in the indictment of the Russian GRU agents. Roger Stone is who is probably puckering his butthole the tightest. There are many threads to tug on. Long way to go.

People hear Russian collusion so they look for Russian collusion and so far, there's no collusion. The people who voted for Trump and would vote for him again see that reality.

Is he catching any voters though? We go 4+ years, investigating him for the entirety of his first term and then some, trying to catch him or those close to him colluding with the Russians, and we don't ever find anything, and now you start to make him look like an unfairly targeted President. So now not only is he an incumbent (pretty strong advantage being an incumbent - see recent history), but now he can play the victim card to boot. Gotta catch him on something prior to the start of the Presidential election cycle or this could backfire into another 4 years.

It is tax evasion, not collusion he was convicted of. Let me put it this way, I would be more shocked if somebody wasn't found guilty of tax evasion in DC and Congress then if they were. I expect most of Congress and any people in an administration to be somewhat crooked, it is politics after all. Honest people don't tend to survive in that climate very long, much less get elected. Just small a bunch of small potatoes that were easily dug up.
