I would clarify accelerated under Trump, but probably began in the 1980s or 1990s. What is the state with the highest % of white working class (no 4 yr degree) in the country? Easy-WV. WV USED to be a solid blue, white working class, union state. And then something happened, and it’s completely flipped. And it’s not just POTUS elections. It’s statewide: Gov/Lt Gov/Attny Gen, both Houses of state legislature, Senate and House seats. Went from solid blue, to you can’t get any deeper red. Manchin was the last statewide elected donk in WV.UNI88 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 9:38 amYou're not wrong about the political realignments but your flip flops have been just has pronounced as kalm's.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 9:23 am
I‘m just pointing out 2 more example of the massive political realignments we have had in the last decade. Many private sector unions which supported Democrats since forever? membership at least has swung from donk supporting to conk supporting. Same with the white working class (and minorities working class has swung some to conks).
Last 10 POTUS elections WV:
1988 D +<5
1992 D +13
1996 D +15
2000 R +6
2004 R+ <13
2008 R+ 13>
2012 R +27
2016 R +42 (WV went to right to work)
2020 R +39
2024 R +42
WV is a microcosm for the country as a whole as far as the Democrat Party & the white working class vote. The Democrat Party has completely abandoned the white class vote.
