When does Biden drop out of the race?

I would be shocked if he doesn't drop out of the race. There's no coming back from his debate performance and then the fallout of the past couple of days. Major news outlets that normally just parrot the Democratic message are saying he should withdraw. His explanations of international travel being the cause of his poor performance ring hollow and frankly, given that the job requires a fair amount of travel, would seem to indicate this isn't the job for him. And frankly, the spectre of a Trump presidency becoming more and more of a sure thing if Biden is his opponent has to be scaring the bejeezus out of the Democratic Party powers-to-be. And really, for any voter in any party, there's no way now that you can think Biden is any longer able to do the job of navigating us through a pretty hostile world that's out there. Heck, it's likely more hostile given that folks in other countries know that Biden isn't up for the job. We should've used the 25th a year or two ago when this became far more noticeable, but I don't think there's any getting around it now - he can't do the job now, let alone for four more years.

The 25th him should have been used eight years ago while Trump was licking Putin's boots in Helsinki and denigrating his own intelligence services in front of the entire planet, something I doubt they've forgotten about yet. (Spoiler fror Trumpers: "denigrate" means to look down on.)

Biden should immediately have Trump arrested and sent to Guantanamo as a threat to national security.

4) I don’t think a Shapiro or someone similar has enough national cache yet to be viable.

Given the fallout from last week's debate, I don't see a viable way for Biden to stay in this race. It already seems like the Democratic Party is coming around to this as you're starting to see more and more reports behind the scenes as well as a few folks speaking publicly now that they can't continue with Biden as the nominee. So the question is, when do Biden's handlers finally realize the gig is up and they have to pull him from the race? I think you could see this happen as early as within the next week, even the next couple of days, given that it's gotten so bad.

The next question is who steps in. I can't really see any other possibility than Harris at this point. We're way too late in the game for the money to work any other way. I know she's been a Quayle-like VP so far, but this could be the moment she needs. She'd be running for her own term in office rather than 25th'ing into one of Biden's terms, and she would have the advantage of potentially being the first woman voted into the White House. That almost got Hillary in despite all of her Clinton-baggage at the time. Plus, from a pure party standpoint, the Dems could rally around her as it could set up 8 more years of Dem control of the White House if she's elected and then is able to use the advantage of the incumbency in 2028.

No one would've really thought of Harris as a real candidate, especially given her particularly poor performance in the nomination process back in 2020, but a seismic event like the President stepping down could really reset the board. You go from Trump looking like the sure winner against an obviously impaired elderly Biden to now a real competitive, knock-down, drag-out fight between a blustery Trump and a far younger opponent.

So, let's hear the guesses on when Biden bows out of this race.
