Re: Are you Registered to Vote...
Officially have changed party registration to Democratic, at least for this year. Now that I know how easy it is I'll just pick whichever party has the most interesting primary races and go with that party. I don't see PA doing away with closed primaries anytime soon, and I'm not naturally opposed to the concept either. I think Toomey is up for re-election in 2022 so I may be doing this again shortly!

More to the point, what the system forces. No sense sitting on the sidelines during a primary when I can pick and choose where to register (hence the reason not to be listed as Independent). Heck, in several races in several areas, the primary is THE election as that particular party (both Dem and GOP examples exist) would be unchallenged in the fall in the general election. I like voting.

Re: Are you Registered to Vote...
I normally don’t vote in primaries because of the party declaration thing...but this year, a critical local position only has candidates in one party...so I’m declaring and voting in the primary on March 3rd...GannonFan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 1:06 pmMore to the point, what the system forces. Re: Are you Registered to Vote...
No party affiliation in Montana voter registration. If you go to the polls, they hand you both ballots. When you're done, put one in the ballot box and shred the other. That's how it should be. The government shouldn't know or care what party I want to vote for.
Personally, I'd go further and say the government shouldn't even be involved in the primaries. Why is my tax money being used to help these private clubs decide which candidate they want to put on the ballot?
Which ballot I use is typically determined by the lower races. President is usually a done deal by the time our primary rolls around and we don't have that many delegates. Senate, Governor, House, etc. are where my vote is worth more in the primary

Re: Are you Registered to Vote...
I'd be happy if they did away with elections and just had the Trump family run things from here on out.

Re: Are you Registered to Vote...
Conservatives in SC are trying to get others to go vote in the Democrats primary in "protest" of our open primaries.
So..to protest the open primary system they are going to vote for a Democrat (one they think Trump can easily beat) in order to say that primaries should be closed. WTF?

Some conservatives in South Carolina want to disrupt the state's upcoming Democratic primary and inject chaos into the race for the nomination.
How? By getting Republicans to vote in the Democratic primary.
"You know I guess you could call it meddling," said Christopher Sullivan, one of the organizers of the Conservative Defense Fund in South Carolina. "I would love to see the Democrats -- whoever wins the South Carolina Democrat primary -- for everybody else to have accused him of having stolen the election because he was actually elected with Republican support and therefore prolonged the chaos and the disruption."

Well, maybe in SC, but the black primary voters are thready. They come out for the general in greater numbers (like everybody)
But they are correct about Bernie. He has no shot against Trump. Just look at his primary numbers against Hillary versus now- in 2016 he pulled down a good portion of moderates, but that was because of Hillary’s toxicity
In the current primaries he has a much shallower and narrower base - men, white men with no college, hard leftists, etc. In the general we won’t hear all the whining about the electoral college because Trump will win the popular vote... mostly because the moderates will stay home out of utter disgust at the choice

In the Nevada Caucus thread I sort of touch on that. Moderates beat the Extremists in NH by almost 10%.CID1990 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 7:21 amI don’t think Bernie needs their helpIbanez wrote:Conservatives in SC are trying to get others to go vote in the Democrats primary in "protest" of our open primaries.

Yup. With his rhetoric and alienation of anyone that's not as extreme as he, he's going to have a tough time getting moderate Dems and Indy's to consider him in a primary when they have more saner choices.
