A lot of factors contribute to this, but there are a couple things that we need to accept in this country -

absent some global catastrophe, we are going to increasingly crowd each other. If this kid had been born 300 years ago he'd probably be a famous frontiersman with towns all over the Ohio River valley named after him. But in today's world he's an outcast in a pressure cooker with nowhere to go, surrounded by a society that is getting exponentially more weak and softheaded by the day.

The other thing we need to accept is that we have access to guns, and unless people are prepared to repeal the 2nd Amendment (and consider if the alternative in this increasingly crowded and dangerous world is an acceptable one) then we will see more and more of this as we increasingly crowd each other - both physically as well as in cyberspace ... where we now have an instant window into every single outrageous and heinous thing humans do around the world.

To be honest I'm surprised this doesn't happen daily

Or better yet, take away 2 coaching positions and fill them with security guards instead.
Cheney SD is contracting with Cheney PD for more school officers due to the Freeman HS shooting. Nearby Lincoln county is doing the same.

Might be time to secure schools like we secure airports, or sport stadiums. Maybe let teachers that want to carry, get them trained and bring their own guns to school. Our youth is just as or more important than someone flying around the country or a crowd at a sports stadium. It's been pretty quiet on the shooting front at these venue's.

From what I understand the assistant football coach was a security guard there. He died shielding kids from getting hit yesterday in a hallway. Real bad timing on that analogy... :ohno:

We can all appreciate heroic actions like that. I'm assuming he was unarmed?

Heard some talking heads discussing how you don't see school shootings in California because almost every school has armed security. I have no idea if that's true but since most schools are gun free zones they are an open target for the 5-15+ minutes it takes for police to arrive.

I guess the two in California this year don't count. Or the 1 last year. :ugeek:

We've got a preponderance of socially isolated and ostracized young men out there. And there may not really be anything we can do but we will continue to have stupid conversations about stupid gun control measures that won't do a thing to stop these types of shootings. But hey, they've got their male privilege, why are they so angry?

The two in CA this year:

1. Cal State San Bernardino - gunshots originating off-campus hit a window on the visual arts building; no injury

2. Salvador Castro Middle School - 12 year old girl brings handgun to school (hopefully parent/guardian was prosecuted), accidentally discharges it, and wounds two fellow students

Was there armed security at the schools? I think that was H154UNI's point.

I don't think it really matters but I wasn't calling out Hi5. More like he dumb talking heads - a school shooting matters regardless of armed security personnel being assigned to the school. :twocents:

Back when I was in high school, we had an outdoor smoking section on campus and not one single shooting. We need to bring back smoking sections so they can cool off before doing something stupid.

Btw, above stats were pulled from Bloomberg’s Everytown website. The stats are so misleading it’s laughable.

One of the 2017 California school shootings is described as such:

“A couple pulled into the parking lot of a Lincoln Elementary School to continue an argument. As they fought, a man in a black jacket approached the car, interjected, and fired twice at the man, hitting him in the forearm.”

Um, is this really a “school shooting”?

I'm tired of talking about it actually. Nothing will happen. Really, if Sandy Hook didn't change anything, I'm convinced nothing will.

True, but are there school shootings, inside schools that have armed security personnel?

That can be one step.
How about the ability of law enforcement to stop someone like this that exhibited multiple warning signs beforehand?

How does a kid with this track record legally pass a background check to buy a gun?

Why do we allow AR-15's to be purchased and used for whatever reasons people want, and guns that can fire off more rounds more quickly as well?

Do we root for this never to happen again or do we root for it to happen everyday? And for it to be schools where politicians kids go or NRA executives kids go?

I could double this list easily....This is the culture that this country has evolved into. It didn't happen overnight. It won't change quickly, unless you try to board a plane with a shoebomb, then TSA will make everyone take off their shoes. That was an easy solution, right?

Why don't we have mass shootings at airports or sports stadiums? During jury duty, I had to do the same process as the airport. Is convenience more important than safety?
