My wife was thinking of doing this before the video/audio of him describing himself as committing sexual assault came out. The last straw for her was a conversation with another Committee member. This guy had been anti Trump during the primaries.

She talked to him this past week and he said he's going to go ahead and support Trump. Came up with really weird reasons for that.

That was it. She concluded the Republican Party is whacked. If this is what the Republican Party is now she can't be a Republican any more.

To me she's doing the ethical thing. Always in the past she's worked hard for Republicans during elections. Get out the vote stuff and all. She can't in good conscience do that this time so she's stepping down.

What, she's been in a coma for the past 30 years or something? :?

No. It's just that she's from Louisiana where people tend to be a little slow and like most states in the South, they fail to provide a decent education system to lift them out of ignorance. It's so pervasive that even the ones who get out and go to Ivy League schools like Bobby Jindal still end up being rather simple minded.

James Carville being the outlier here.

You know, CAA, I'm sure there is plenty of nonsense in the videos you're posting. But whether there is or not it doesn't matter. From my wife's perspective, she's worried about what HER Party does. And HER Party nominated an atrocity. The question of whether Hillary is an atrocity or not is a separate issue. What she's looking at is the fact that the Party she has worked hard for for many years just nominated a total abomination who is totally unqualified, is unstable, and has no business being President of the United States. It's a sobering situation.

Now it's back to looking like she's going to resign. Current plan is to write an open letter to Republicans in the district she represents saying she's resigning and why. This follows a conversation she had with her pastor yesterday.

Some of you guys act as though this kind of thing is no big deal for the Republican Party. We'll see. But I think this kind of thing may be going on all over the place. This is a person who was really committed. Really worked. Now, unless something changes she's out.

I think the Republican Party is in real crisis now. It's losing any hope it had for a competitive future. It was already an uphill climb because of evolving demographics. Now it's done something to ensure that there's no way it's going to make progress in convincing non Whites that it has a better way.

The Republican Party didn't gain anybody with Trump. Trump cultists are Trump cultists. They don't give a crap about a political party. And I think, along with losing any hope of making progress among non Whites, it's losing people who have been committed to principle. I don't know if it'll go the way of the Whig Party. That's a bit much. But I wouldn't be absolutely shocked if it did.

Here's a story on a couple of Alaska Republican State Central Committee resignations:

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/pre ... cing-trump

I think that the "integrity" move for members of the Republican National Committee members would've been to all resign rather than support Trump. That would've been a statement of leadership. Should've said, "We can not in good conscience support this person and if we can't support the person who won the Republican Primaries the proper thing for us to do is resign."

Pastor?

The Republicans got into trouble when the whack job religious nuts took control.

Now, some of those folks who hijacked the Republican party are leaving because there is no longer any decency and/or God in the party? :suspicious:

Good riddance. You can cuddle up to the Clinton folks who hate your guts and are taking away everything that you believe.

The funny part is...where are the lying Cruz Republicans going to go, politically? They won't be able to make their own party because no one wants to listen to their bullshit...and their shrinking numbers will no longer given them any pull. Maybe they will go the way of most religious folks when other people get fed up with the utter BS...they will leave America and sail to some new world that has ignorant people that will believe in their fairy tales. How about Mars?

Do you not realize that polls show the overwhelming majority of White Evangelical Christians say they are going to vote for Trump? See http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-el ... nk-n666146 for one commentary on that.

She's not following the herd. Neither is her pastor, BTW. In fact I think he's about to set himself up for getting a whole lot of grief because I think he's going to make his feelings known. I think he is in denial. I talked to him today to thank him for giving feedback to my wife and during the course of conversation it became clear he does not believe the media when they say stuff about White evangelical Christians supporting Trump. I think if he does speak out he's in for a rude awakening. We shall see.

My wife is not in denial about that though. She knows it's true. And it breaks her heart.

I have to give Obama credit for a line he spouted the other day. He asked, "You say you're the Party of family values and you nominate this guy?" It's a very good question and it's one the Republicans can't possibly have a good answer for because there isn't one.

You're wrong and I know you know that. You and your wife were all for the southern strategy of playing poor dumb rednecks against blacks when it was working for you for 30 years. But you can't fool all the people all the time, not even dumb squat white trash from Mississippi. Took them 30 years but even they finally figured out that they're not going to see things get better for them and now this boy Trump took your stick away and is beating your ass with it and you don't like it so you start sniveling about "integrity moves" and similar drivel. You're as phony as phony gets.

The only thing that would wake up the political party monopoly in 'Merica, is if Jill Stein and/or Gary Johnson get more votes than one of the parties.

I don't agree with all of the Stein or Johnson platforms, but I would trust them with my bank account, children/grandchildren's future, US Military decisions etc over the 2 political inbreeds, Clinton or Trump.

Voting 3rd party is not a wasted vote. Having a clear conscience is a good vote.

It doesn't matter. Trump is and always has been a buffoon. But you can't deny him credit for probably the biggest service anyone has done for America - he stopped the anti-Christ Ted Cruz from winning the Republican nomination. Given how awful Hillary is, it's very possible that Cruz could've won the whole thing and we could be looking at a Cruz Presidency. I'd shake Trump's hand for helping to make sure that whacko didn't get to the White House, that is, if I wasn't afraid he'd grab me somewhere else. We should be thankful for Trump for at least that.
