You guys make light of this issue but It's not a laughing matter. No, we did not elect insane people during 2000 - 2016. They were not unstable nut jobs like Trump is.
Bush in particular was/is VERY stable. Very thick skin. Very under control.
Trump is a complete whack job.
The problem was that it was Cheney's control.
