Winner likely gets 3 SCOTUS picks, and 1st order of business will be selecting the 9th Judge right out of the gate. That's what hangs in the balance this November, the next POTUS can do loads of damage. How do you not recognize this?

If you don't like his style you don't like his style. But he doesn't use notes or a teleprompter. The fact that he does not is something he's known for. He may be speaking from a memorized text because he's capable of that. To quote his former teacher Alan Dershowitz, he's "off the charts brilliant." Don't know if he memorizes something or not. But when he speaks he's not using notes or a teleprompter.

I've said many times that he is handicapped in that he just does not have an attractive persona. But I'm fine with him because I know he is a strict constructionist. If he gets a chance to nominate a Supreme Court Justice it's going to be an Original Understanding judge. There is absolutely no doubt that that's what he'll do.

That's part of another aspect of him: If he says he's going to act in a certain way when he gets elected that's how he's going to act. You might not like the way he says he's going to act. But you can count on him acting that way.

I have been pondering the election for some time and finally made a decision. I have to go with Trump.

Anyone who is not liked by Democrats and the messed up GOP establishment has things going for them.

Well, if you are comfortable with having someone with the emotional maturity of a 3 year old in that position then I guess you'll do what you'll do.

Otherwise: It's not just the GOP "establishment" that doesn't like him. Most of the GOP rank and file doesn't like him either. And that's going to be a problem for him if he does win the nomination.

In the case of Cruz its everybody who has ever met him. His college roommate still talks bad about him at length. Watch how his wife and kids recoil from him when they're posing for photographs. Oh I know Cruz isn't popular. But he's not as unpopular with potential voters as Trump is. I heard once again tonight that Trump has the highest unpopularity rating of any Presidential candidate since they started doing unpopularity ratings in 1984.

Polls that measure such things have also consistently shown that if you make the choice just Cruz vs. Trump among Republican voters they choose Cruz; usually by a double digit margin. Had it been just a two person contest all along Cruz would be well ahead right now both in terms of votes and delegates.

Having said all that, an intelligent vote taking into account a balance between conservatism and electability would've been a vote for Rubio. The Republican primary electorate blew it by rejecting him.

Where are we now? Cruz at least has SOME reasonable shot...some reasonable probability...of being able to pull out a general election win. Trump does not. He's a complete pariah. Plus the Democrats have not even begun to exploit the target rich environment that is his history of actions and statements. If he gets nominated he'll get slaughtered.

Dude...Cruz has no shot. The fact you think he does considering your wife's connections speaks volumes about the bubble you are in.

Trump can at least speak to the ugly/garish/troll side of American culture. Cruz appeals to the nerdy/preachy Christian Right and perhaps few outsiders who aren't afraid of booze, drugs, and the female form such as yourself.

And that constituency is legion!

As of now, Cruz trails Clinton by 2.5 percentage points in the Real Clear Politics polling average. Trump trails her by 10.6 percentage points. And Trump has very high name recognition. He's not an unknown quantity.

And, again, even within the Republican Party Cruz is stronger than trump head to head. Here's one published January 14 showing that head to head Cruz was estimated to be favored by 51 - 43%:

http://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/t ... ll-n496711

Then here is a later poll published March 8 showing Cruz would beat Trump among Republican voters by 54 to 41% IF it's head to head with those two as the only choices.

Trump is a weak, weak general election candidate. Yes, weaker than Cruz. It's amazing to me that people will even attempt to argue otherwise.

There's acknowledging in 4 years they could do some damage, and then there's complete hyperbole..

If you seriously don't think a lefty judge added to what is there now won't sway matters on gun rights, religious freedom, and economic issues such as forcing non-union employees to pay union dues then you really are clueless...now add a couple more lefty judges to the one hilldog is sure to nominate when she claims the WH and you have yourself wholesale changes to this country soon to happen...now factor the opposite will happen if that canadian cruz was to get his choices for SCOTUS. Meh...

Seriously you're just too insulated to understand. Trump has overcome massive odds already. Your polls are irrelevant. Cruz is unelectable. Trump knows how to compete in a popularity contest. He's superior at marketing and can pivot.

They are all full of shit but Cruz cannot pivot. If you want ANY chance of a Republican winning you will support Trump.

I never said a candidate couldn't do damage. :dunce: You took exception to my original post where it was clear the ONLY POINT I was arguing was against the claim that Cruz could take us "back to the dark ages" (which refers to the middle ages which commonly refers to the period of the 7th-13th century) and I stated no candidate could do THAT much damage in 4 years. And you wanted to argue that...

I call bullshit. If most of the GOP rank and file didn't like him, then Cruz would be ahead.

That, or, the GOP rank and file are lazy and can't get someone at Walmart to cover them for 1 hr so they can go vote for Cruz.

And Cruz has the emotional maturity of an 8 year old. When he doesn't get his way in the Senate he threatens and tries to shut down the government just like an 8 year old threatens to take his ball and go home when the game isn't going his way.

Cruz might be slightly less unpopular than Trump but that's like saying that the piece of sh!t on the right doesn't smell as bad as the one on the left. They're both pieces of sh!t, they both smell like sh!t and either one will get curb stomped in November.

A large percentage of moderates and independents are going to stay home, vote 3rd party or vote Donk if either is the Conk candidate. Kalm does have a point about Trump's ability to energize people though so it is conceivable that he could do better despite what the polls say.

The so called govt shutdown you are referring to shut down about 17% of the the govt.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/10 ... -down.html

There was A LOT of conks in Congress, including Cruz, who campaigned in 2010 and 2012 with promises of defunding Obamacare. And a lot of them reneged on that pledge when faced with the Mexican standoff with Obama in 2013 (you know the whole conks passing a bill that defunded Obamcare, Obama refusing to sign a bill that didn't fully fund Obamcare = a small fraction of the govt shutdown). Cruz was one of the ones who refused to renege on his campaign promise.

Would you rather have a pol who campaigns with promises he is going to do something, then reneges on that promise when he gets into office (like what we usually see with both conk and donk)?

Well, if you are comfortable with having someone with the emotional maturity of a 3 year old in that position then I guess you'll do what you'll do.

Otherwise: It's not just the GOP "establishment" that doesn't like him. Most of the GOP rank and file doesn't like him either. And that's going to be a problem for him if he does win the nomination.

He better do something fast because right n ow he isn't entertaining and for him that is the kiss of death.
You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by c squared. Then you energy.

If not for Gary Johnson I would vote either for Trump or Sanders.

In other words, if I can't have Johnson as President, the backup plan would be to have one who is completely ineffectual; unable to accomplish anything at all.

That would be Trump or Sanders.
