Just one day after Norway was ranked as the best country in the world in which to live comes news that roughly half of all Norwegians will suffer depression or anxiety at some point in their lives. Psychiatric ailments have taken over as the country’s most widespread, and expensive, in the health care sector.
It’s a paradox of sorts: This year’s United Nations Human Development report, released on Monday, claims that Norwegians enjoy the highest life expectancy, literacy and income potential in the world. That apparently doesn’t mean they’re happy.
Depression and anxiety are the new folkesykdom , or national illnesses, say researchers at the state public health institute Folkehelseinstituttet . In a report issued this week, the institute claims that mental health problems are also costing society dearly because they can crop up early in life, often lead to long-term sick leave and expensive treatment programs. Patients also can suffer relapses, because of the chronic nature of their illness.
The study notes how alarmingly common diagnoses of depression and anxiety ( angst ) have become in Norway: They are the main cause of around a third of all sick leaves, affecting at least 100,000 persons at any given time.

No but nobody cares about Norway. It's irrelevant. Put it this way: If Norway disappeared from the face of the Earth tomorrow we wouldn't even notice. Well, we'd see news about it. But there would be very little impact on anybody outside of Norway. If Texas did, we would. And so would everybody else. Not as much as us, but some. You don't here people describing Norway as a "shithole" or "armpit" do you?
The point is there is no reason to say things about Norway because nobody thinks about Norway. It's just there.
It could very well be that at least SOME people who have lived in the US in general and in Texas in particular would say that Norway is a shithole if they lived there for a while after having become accustomed to living in the United States in general or Texas in particular.

Re: Texas
Texas has a lot of oil and things like world renowned cancer centers and very good public universities. I would be very willing to bet that there are more people from other places going to Texas for advanced medical treatment than there are going to Norway. Also things I happen to know about because I have a deaf son like top centers for Cochlear Implant surgery. There are more people coming from other places in order to go to universities than there are going to Norway. Then there's the oil. Texas is just flat out WAY more important to the world than Norway is.I don't know. Texas is vast and boring. Houston is a dumpster fire. The only city worth a damn is Austin.

Houston is too hot but has a big Vietnamese community so you can get a decent bowl of pho and get your feet done cheap.

Hands down, the worst BBQ I've ever had was on Sunday at this place outside Houston. It was disappointing.
